Saturday the not charging light came on.
went to sears but it was too late to get the part
now car is in garage and I wonder if it will start.
How much is a new and or rebuilt alternator?

New I would think, not sure though. Usually autoparts stores sell reman. stuff, dealer sells new parts.

So for 30 dollars more is it not better to go for a new alternator versus a rebuilt one?

I got one from a zetec that has a few miles on her (around 20k I suppose) and I can get it to you for cheap. Want it before I send the stique to the scrapyard.

Check my alternator headaches post below - if this is a contour then the book will tell you to pull the axel too to get to it though you really don't need to. Though my alt. was bad there were other issues too as you will see in my ppost - just an fyi incase you have probs.

just called shop guy and he quoted me $410 parts and labor to install reman alternator.
good deal or what
