Yeah, if you think about how much of a premium you pay for a new car, you're still better off fixing your current vehicle.
For example, I look at my CSVT and say, "Well, I paid around $7,000 for a car that was around $24,000 new, and I've only put around $1,500 into it so far, so I'm still making out on the deal.''
But I understand; it's the headache of always having something to fix that drives us all crazy.
Old car: '98 SVT T-Red
K&N air filter; Ford Focus RS shift knob. Off to be auctioned off somewhere.
New car: 2003 Honda Accord DX Sedan, 5-speed.

MAN! this is the first time i'm back on my computer since i posted. Anyway, YES I DID SAY I DIDN'T LIKE FORD. but i gave them a chance. and they blew it.
MY '98 contour has over 85,000mi. i'm only 20yrs old and attend college full-time and work part-time. i only complain about this car b/c every other week it wants serious attention and it hard finding the time or money to fix and replace.
i bought this car b/c i was attracted to it. it is a very very nice looking car for the money and it rides pretty decent. my sister had a '96 Mercury Mystique and i liked it.
PROBLEMS: EXHAUST LEAK(doens't pass inspection), Temp. Guage reads high, but 3 mechanics say it is working perfectly and it is normal for this particular car. Transmission shifts hard (but realy isn't too bad, slam shifts), check engine light comes off and on every other day. i think its the o2 sensors. OH, and the car stalls if i have less a quarter tank of gas or less. What the heck is that?!!?
i just feel something is going to go wrong everytime i drive it. i looks good, but it feels wrong.

What the hell do you want ? It's an 85k mile car !! Exhaust leak ? Where ? Have you tried to fix it ?
I had an exhaust leak at ~57k miles when a gasket failed. Big deal.
Overheating ? 3 different mechanics say it's ok. From your other thread, it seems ok to me too. Others have posted on that thread and said the same thing.
Stalling on 1/4 tanks of gas ? It sounds like your fuel pump is on its way out. Others can chime in too.
Shifts hard ? Checked your tranny fluid level ? Have you maintained the system ? Regular flushes ?
CEL on and off ? Get the damn codes pulled (free at Autozone) and post the codes here and then we can figure out whats wrong.
If you are a pizza delivery guy as your profile says, then you must realise that this stop-go driving will beat the crap out of your car. However it seems like you like pissing and moaning about your problems more than trying to fix them or even trying to figure out what the problem is.

Gets too hot for your taste, maybe you should switch to synthetic oil (if you change ur oil at all) or check the level, flush the coolant, exhaust leak is an easy job, and the hard shifting could be fluid, or the turbine speed sensor (pretty cheap and pretty easy to replace yourself). Your only "serious attention" is the fuel pump which isnt a very big job at all. Cars need attention, look under your hood.

WOW, you mean every part on an engine should last forever? Well gosh I guess I'm mad at ford too since I have to do ROUTINE MAINTENANCE.  Since it's clear you don't know how to take care of a car, I think you should start leasing,, lease something real fun, like a kia.  I don't think Ford cares if they lose the business of someone that buys a used car and doesn't take care of it,, they're not making profit of someone selling the car they bought from Ford 6 years ago anyways.

An exhaust leak and a high temp reading isnt that big of a deal. You could have MUCH worse problems than that. Do you maintain it? If its a Zetec, it runs hot, most do. Change all the filters, and tranny fluid, and see what happens.
If the tranny fluid has never been changed, dont flush it, just change a little bit at a time.
Think about it this way, a fuel pump is much cheaper than if the engine blew, or all the wheels fell off on the highway......
Doesnt sound like the problems are so bad that you have to gripe so much about the car. I know its frustrating, but you gotta deal with it. You could go buy another used car that has a dozen worse problems. Just ask for help, there are a lot of people that will be willing to help on this site, mabye some in your area.
