There is a turbo zetec contour in prattville, Al. I just completed my custom turbo kit and the car is running great. I will hopefully have my friends digital camera tonight, so I will have pictures later today. The car is bad and has been a head turner for the longest time now it is just crazy.

How far is Prattville from Huntsville? I'd really like to check that out in late March when we have the SE-CEG Regional Meet down there.

I can't, I live in Chattanooga, TN. And I'd be skipping skool, which is something I'd never do. Well, ok, maybe every other class everyday. Do you think you could make it up to Huntsville for the Regional Meet? We're going to the drag strip Friday and the Dyno Saturday. I'd like to see what you run and put down. I know Hector would want you to beat him, too.

As of right now I am very happy with the car and it sounds crazy I mean at only 4psi it sounds awsome. I went to autozone yeasterday and some guys in a rsx were leaving, they glanced at my intercooler and then pulled out about 30 seconds later while I was sitting in my car they came back through the parking lot just to see it again. Like I said it is a headturner. I just hope it will continue to run like it does right now.

Hopefully this friday me and my friends are going out and we will be making a little video as well as taking some pictures. I do have a picture of the car before it was turbo but how do you post them.

I don't know the exact location of the dyno for Saturday, PM Phil (unysis1) for dyno info. I can post more info on the drag strip when I get home tonight, but Phil might know 'bout that, too. I would say go read the meet thread in the SE forum, but it's mostly drunken rantings so there's no real info there. As far as the pictures, email them to me at atarinerd2000@yahoo.com and I'll host 'em on my Car Domain page. Since I'm about to go to class, I won't be able to check it until I get home tonight, pretty late.

Yeah, I think this is the first turbo'd Zetec 'tour. We gotta see pics. I'd highly recommend getting on that dyno to (a) see what you're putting down and (b) make sure you aren't running too rich or lean, which could cause damage. I'd hate to hear of so much work going down the drain. I will patiently expect updates

As of right now the car has 75k. The car has been freshened up a little. I purchase the car from my sister last augaust when the car had roughly 50k. Since then I have done some simple mods like an intake and exhaust. In july of 2003 I had the head ported and polished. Up until now that was my largest upgrade. I just recently replaced the timing belt and the lower tensioner pulley b/c it was going bad. Other than that the car has been running like a dream. I havent had any major problems out of the car since I have had it. I used to post on here a while ago but some people thought it was impossible for a zetec contour to run a 16.1 1/4 mile but thats all right. I have since put alot of time and money into the car. My only concern now will be the clutch when I finally up the boost.

Well, as of right now the car runs slightly rich according to my a/f gauge. Maybe by this summer I will have complete control of the car as far as ignition timing and fuel managment. Future upgrades will include an msd dis 2 and and timing boost master by msd. A walbro 190 or 255 lph fuel pump. Right now I have a vortec fmu which has been doing its job as far as I can tell I mean up until about 2800 rpm the gauge reads lean and after that it tends to begin running rich but like I said I am only running 4psi. Before I turn up the boost I will have all of my necessary components. It is just hard I am only 18 and this car is consuming my $$$$

That would be the one, but now I have something to overcome that. My car was really running 16.1 but I do not have my timeslip anymore. I have not ran the car since then but since then I have had the head ported and polished. Even more that that now I have a turbo.

FMU, is this a return style tour? Also stay away from the MSD and timing master. A J&S Safeguard will do everything both those things can do and it can sense deto/knock and retard timing based on that.
And for engine managment, either Tom or the SCT software is your best bet. Welcome to the Zetec turbo club.

Yea, I was surprised the intercooler is 33"long x 6" tall x 3" deep. It fits very nice. But from the picture you can't see the whole thing, there are like 3 inches you can't see.

http://www.jandssafeguard.com/safeguard.html It will do everything you need. There's a guy on the Focus forums pushing over 10psi and he couldn't do that before without deto without it. Is that the Precision turbo kit? Looks like you have the MAF right before the TB. Did you buy the Focus kit then just custom fit it to the Tour or make a homemade kit using that as a template. Keep it at 5psi or under and use only 91, preferably 93 octane till you can get some tuning. An FMU and timing box isn't proper tuning.

I had the down pipe and the intake piping made by childs performance in montgomery, al. The upper intake pipe is the first section of the ford focus cold air intake. I just used an obx cold air intake. All of the other pipes were made by childs performance.

The only thing I really had to change to make the t3 fit was remove the factory radiator cooling fan. I just used and imperial 10" cooling fan. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will have another one in there. Today I finally got my custom oil feed line. The like in braided steel and it is the same color blue as the rest of mine wire looms. I was having some serious problems with my first line so I had Alabama bolt and nuts supply make my a custom 4' line with the fitting already on the line.

Oh, I know I am just running 4 psi right now with 93 octane. No it is not a precision turbo kit but I got my Ideal from them. The only thing is the intercooler pipes go underneath the chassie so they look really cool because you can see them from the front. The good thing about them is they are flush with the chassie so they wont scrape unless I bottom out. I havent had a problem with that, yet.

Yeah, my pipes are routed under the chasiss, at least on the passanger side for the inlet of the intercooler. On the outlet there's a little channel the goes behind the fog lights and wheel well that allows a pipe to squease in just above the frame right next to the AC condensor. Don't know if the Contour has the same space avaliable though, but it's the same chasiss. Yeah, if your front bumper scrapes then your intercooler pipes will scrape. Just watch the steep inclines on some driveways and parking lot entrances, and you'll be ok.
Not crazy about a blow-thru MAF setup, but that's between you and your tuner. Get on a dyno and see what kind of power it puts out.

Wow, congrats! A Zetec-er finally did it! Welcome to the world of Turbos...just warning you though, once you go turbo, you'll never be able to enjoy a N/A car ever again. What size exhaust are you running? How much do you have invested?
You should check out Turboford.org...its mostly 2.3L stuff, but there's alot of general turbo tuning tech that gets discussed there that will apply to every application.

I am running a AiResearch t3 turbo. The compressor housing is .42 ar and the exhaust housing is .48 ar. It has a 60 trim wheel. I couldn't tell you how much I have invested, I would have to add it all up.

Naw man, I have never been on a dyno and I couldn't guess at any numbers b/c I dont want to mislead anyone. I can say the car pulls very strong but it does need to be tuned so I can get all of the power out of the car.

I see that your car is a 99, but you have a FMU? Did you add a return line? 98+ have a non-return fuel line right?

the fmu was an easy installation because my car has a return style fuel system.

That's wack. I thought Ford started in 98? Could Ford not make up there minds with the Contour?
Your lucky if you have the return, not only can you add a simple/afforable FMU, but you can lower the fuel presure to add larger injectors.

Yeah, your lucky to have a return fuel system. It should allow you to do some of the standard honda tricks to get a good AF ratio. You still don't want to jack up the fuel pressure to sky high levels. 42lb/hr injectors will do between 200-240whp at 45psi, just add 1:1 psi per pound of boost on top of that at most. There's still the problem of the MAF range. When your MAF hits 5v it will either shut down the injectors or it will just max out the injectors. Neither of which you want. The problem with getting a MAF with the proper range is it will then boost your timing way beyond stock and then you'll have to do something to pull timing. You could get by with just a J&S Safeguard, but a dyno tuned chip is best. For the most Zetec turbo experience, look into the Focus forums, specifically focaljet.com. There are more turbo'd Foci running around than all boosted Contour/Cougars combined. Also do a search of my past posts, I've been running a homemade turbo setup for well over a year. As for tuning solutions, look into the SCT software, I believe StreetFlight is a dealer for that. It's your best home user tuning solution. Now we got you here, and there's another guy on the Cougar forums who just finished his own custom turbo...starting not to feel so unique and special... .....

WELL, ME AND MY FRIEND TOOK THE CAR OUT LAST NIGHT. WE PUT A LITTLE OF THAT SPECIAL STUFF IN THE GAS TANK. I RAN 1/4 TANK OF 93 AND 1.5 GALLONS OF 110 RACE GAS. WE HAD A BALL. I TOOK A BIG CHANCE AND UPPED THE BOOST A LITTLE AND THE CAR IS AWSOME. LAST NIGHT WAS A PERFECT NIGHT TO RIDE B/C IT WAS LIKE 36 DEGREES AND PERFECTLY CLEAR SKIES. THE CAR WAS RUNNING GREAT ALL NIGHT AND ITS HARD TO EXPLAIN THERE IS JUST SOMETHING ABOUT BOOST. THE CAR PULLS OUTRAGEOUSLY HARD AND THE MORE YOU PUSH THE MORE IT GIVES. I KNOW THAT A AIR FUEL GAUGE IS NOT 100% BUT IT WAS TELLING ME THAT I WAS RUNNING RICH FROM 2500 RPM ALL THE WAY THROUGH. I WAS REALLY SHORT SHIFTING TO BE SAFE AND THE CAR WAS JUST HARD TO LET GO B/C LIKE I SAID THE MORE YOU GOT INTO IT THE MORE IT GAVE.

THANX MAN, I APPRECIATE IT. I REALLY NEED SOME HELP. MY NEXT MOVE IS A NEW FUEL PUMP BUT I AM NOT SURE WHICH FUEL PUMP TO GET. MY CHOICES ARE A WALBRO 255 OR 190 LPH. I BELIEVE THE 190 WOULD BE SUFFICIENT BUT WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK.

I ran 5psi on stock returnless fuel system and ECU and the car ran ok for over 20k miles. I did have to short shift because the EGTs would hit 1500F by 5500rpms. You don't want to run hotter than 1500F on stock internals. You'll also want to get an EGT guage as soon as possible.
I'm not crazy about the turbo being only oil cooled. You realy want water cooling for turbo longevity.

all right, I have been looking into an egt gauge. It will come soon I hope. Like I said yesterday, I just purshased a new fuel pumpand my next step will probably be an egt gauge and 2nd degree colder spark plugs.I believe I will be getting denso itv22's because they are two heat ranges colder plus they are pretty good plugs. I also hope to install the fuel pump today.

There are plenty of oil cooled turbos that have lived a long time...The early SVO mustangs and GT-turbos came with oil cooled turbos and I personally have driven 3 that still have the original turbo after 20 years and 150k-200k miles. Regular oil changes and cooldowns after driving will keep any turbo alive a long time; oil cooled or water cooled.

Go with copper plugs, copper is a much better conductor of electricity and the tip stays cooler than plat or iridium. It is generally accepted that coppers are the way to go on any FI setup. They may wear out quicker, but hell, they're only $1.50 a plug. You could buy a lifetime supply for the cost of one set of over-hyped iridiums .

Their is not direct plug in copper plug that's two steps colder. The only spark plug that will fit and is colder is Motorcraft AZFS22C, what I use. They are copper and one step colder. That's assuming your stock plugs are AZFS32E or F, can't remember exactly the last letter. The 22Cs are also kind of hard to find, I could only get them special ordered through the Ford dealer, they cost around $12 a set.
If you look to get another kind of plug that some book says will work make sure you look at the new plug and the origional. If they are not the EXACT same size and lenght and thread lenght, you CAN'T use them. I don't know of any other plugs aside from the 22Cs that are the EXACT same lenght and size as the stock plugs. If they are too short they won't seat properly in the head and could possibly damnage the engine.
That's also for a 2000 year model. I don't know if earlier year models had different spark plugs. If they are the same, only one person makes custom spark plugs up to 5 steps colder and that's TurboTom at focus-power.com, but he charges $50 for a set.

You forgot to mention, on most standard 101-key keyboards, caps lock is only 7/16th of an inch away from the homerow keys
