I have searched for SVT pads and have found noting that relates to my question (sorry if I did not word my search well enough). I have a 98 SVT E1 and picked up brake pads. They have a sensor attached to them that I do not see on my car, is this for the E0?

I just called autozone and all SVT's require the same pads with the sensor. I also called ford by my work and they said for my production date I need the sensors. I guess I will find out when I take the caliper off today.

These would be the wear sensors...I don't have them on my 99 (build date Dec. 98). These cars are all kinds of f@#$ed up when it comes to different parts on different years. Quite retarded, especially when not even the dealership knows which part to give you.

Ok well you'll have to cut off the wire. There isn't a harness to plug it into.

The replacement pads for my E0 came with the sensor wires and i just cut them off. No Contours were made with sensors. Some Mondeos and Cougras had them though.

There is a real good chance that you have the wrong pads. Take a look at the illustrations at BAT www.batinc.net

The Ford catalog is wrong. And of course, the aftermarket patterns off the factory catalog. It says the build date for the change is 5/99 but it was much earlier. Perhaps as early as 2/98 which is the date for the change from E0 to E1. It is best to check the illustrations and order accordingly. Don't cut the wires until you know for sure that you have the correct pads. The late SVT pads are the same as the non SVT pads.

You are correct. Mine is a E1 and was built 2-20-98.

Thanks for the link to Bat, they do look just like those, they just have the sensor. I will just cut it off then.

Autozone sells the regular Contour pads (5/99 SVT+) without the sensor and by no surprise they are cheaper.

Most part house's computers never show the change back from the original shorter pads to the regular ones. Also like you have found out they list the sensor equipped pads as an option which of course they never were.
