Hey everyone, new California CEGers here, I just recently bought a 1998 T-red Contour SVT and wanted to introduce myself.
There are somethings that I think are a bit out of the ordinary with my car, the first being that it was originally registered in early 1997(Michigan I think?) before the Contours were actually released for sale, and it has only 33k miles on it, so I'm thinking that it may have had some original purpose such as an official Ford showcar, or maybe a pacecar in a race or something like that.
I haven't personally seen the interior of another SVT, but I know that they came in a blue interior, and my car is more of a black and grey interior, definately not blue compared to the SVT Floormat color I have seen before in shops.
I know there are posts on how to obtain the # SVT on the forums, but since the search feature is currently disabled could someone tell me how to find the # SVT using the VIN number?
Yeah so I'm not an original owner from when the cars first came out and I bought this used, but it's a great car and I'm enjoying it very much. Huge step up from the 1969 VW Beetle jalopy I was driving before!(At least it taught me how to drive stick as a first vehicle)
Well that's about it, maybe give some insight on any of this and nice to meet you all. By the way I'm located in Southern California in Agoura Hills 91301, the past few days I have seen a dark green SVT, one time out in Malibu Lake on Tuesday the 30th, and another time where I work at the California Do It Center on Friday the 2nd. Thanks again.

That's definitely odd, but I doubt it's a pace car....SVT interiors only came in dark blue or tan also. Maybe someone painted the interior....Are you sure it's an SVT?....That would suck if you bought a transformed SE and didn't know it. The # is 1-800-FORD-SVT. That simple. Just call and they'll tell you everything. Good luck and welcome.

Welcome to CEG. Word of advice, search around before you post something "new" because most likely it is not, and people aren't affraid to call you on it. And lets get some pics of that tour pronto!

Word of advice #2, no matter what happens, DON'T TRUST A FORD DEALERSHIP!! THe characters at my local dealership like to ask me if my SVT is a 4 or 6 cyl. when calling in for parts.....

Like everyone else said, Welcome!
As for the early cars, I too have an earlier built car (#507), it was built 4/27/97, I purchased it a month later. I know Vadim at SHOshop had a very early car and "Viss1" on these boards here has a very low build number (I believe he has #30). Those cars will have a build plate on the radiator core support that states "showcar" or something like that. Take a look at the core support.
The dark blue looks black in some light, and purple in others....the tan was offered after 98.5 models I believe.
You have to call SVT with your VIN. You have to provide proof of ownership (registration or pinkslip). They will in turn send out to you a certificate of build date, etc. etc.
There's an SVTOA show at the Speedzone in City of Industry on the 11th of this month (next Sunday), I think a few of us are going.
Congrats on your purchase, hopefully, you'll enjoy the car as much as I have!

Post the VIN to your car in the general section and ask for someone to run a Carfax or Oasis report. There are quite a few people who have accounts on those sites and usually within a few hours you'll have an answer to exactly what you have.
Welcome to CEG!!!
