I notice that alot of CEG'ers remove the hood liners on their cars and list it as a mod. Why do this? What is the benefit aside from a couple of pounds of weight? Does it have anything to do with underhood heat?

Yes, removing it frees up more space for air to flow around. Its there to quiet engine sounds and if that isn't an issue for you, you should remove it.

Only funtion is for sound deadening.

lol...i removed mine to put a bra on my car and never ended up putting it back on...it was to much of a hassle so i just left it off....does that mean that i can say i have a mod on my car

Otto cycle (or gasoline engines)are actually more efficient at higher temps. Material concerns (metal melting, plastic parts degrading, rubber burning) limit how hot we design our engines to run.

It's not necessarily true that a cooler engine runs better.
