Well, it has been fired up. I now have (one in a group of many) a 3.0L S/C'd SVT Contour. I think it may be the first of its kind, as it is a 2001 3.0L with the Return Fuel System. The fuel rail looks like Frankenstein. What a job. I think Keith (Street Flight) is still cussing about it. I am still not even sure that the hood will close without hitting. The EGR is sitting very high. I will shout out when it is tuned and I get preliminary numbers. I won't have the true numbers for a few months as I need to break it in properly. Bugs bugs and more bugs to work out. Look out Warmonger! I am aiming for you.

What did you do for your fuel rail? I am still unsure that mine will be the long-term solution. It is really scary. Not so sure solder will hold up for much time. the injectors are spaced way differently.

Jason, Congrats!
I've been toying with the idea of some type of forced induction, but both options are expensive at this point. I cannot wait to see what kind of numbers you put down and how reliable this will be! I'm very excited for you!

Your fuel rail should have been fine... I have the return fuel system. We had to add the return line. What a [censored]. I was not expecting that one.

The waiting is not yet over. It needs major tuning. I know that most of the wait is over, but I expect another week of drama.

So true, trust me it will NEVER end. Hence why I like turning my key on a 170 hp 2.5L and it runs the same no matter what. I miss the surge of the SC 3L but don't miss the constant tinkering.

Don't get ahead of the game yet. I have not yet tuned it. I had some major issues a few days ago. I am running way too lean and my 02's are fouling. I am excited however.

He's running an 01 style 3L including heads and manifolds so he had to make a fuel rail to work with that setup. He also had to make the connection to the 3L UIM.

Sounds groovy. The S/C should like those small ports. Good response. Especially if you get the boost up fast and intercool it.

I had the FMU and the Walbro 255lph pump on the old setup, but was realizing >100psi fuel rail pressure. I wans not happy with that and with this new Franken-Fuelrail I was worried about leakage. That [sarcasm]could be a bit of a problem[/sarcasm]. I think that with the right tune, I should have a monster. I will need to recalibrate my Pro-M (sitting and wating in my trunk) and get some 42#'rs and I will be good to go.

Your numbers will be close to mine, expect 300FWHP and around 230-240 FWTQ. Its fun to drive

I am hoping for more torque than that. I want 320fwhp and 265fwtq. These are my goal numbers. Who knows how long it will take to attain them.

Don't worry Chris, I am asking for the possible. I expect that the HOT program will require 95 or better octane. I want 300/250 from 91 Tractor Gas at the pump.

Seems like for a centri you would need one flat curve to get that much peak torque while keeping the psi sane uptop. Youd need about... 7-8 psi to make the 275 marker and 5-6 psi intercooled to reach 250 at the N/A peak torque RPM. Non-intercooled your looking at about 10-11 psi for the 275 and 8 or so psi for the 250 number at the N/A peak torque RPM. Be interesting to see what you do lay down in torque.

I got bored to be honest. It's still running great never fear, but I got some new ideas talking with people on CEG and lots of thinking.
I, like Demon am very interested in the benefits of the oval port heads combined with a (functional) dual runner intake system so I am going to head that way. It has been a hard decision, but I am going to purchase an 01 or 02 3L and start over. I sold those wonderfull cylinder heads of mine to Jeff along with the the prepped 98 3L short block for a smoking deal! He has an SVT so he can put his own parts together and with the turbo from streetflight he should easily be able to attain equal numbers to what I had before. If he adds a good set of pistons; which I highly encourage, then he should be able to surpass my old numbers.
I will work some magic on the oval port heads, combine them with my intake system and SVT cams and come out with something equal or better I hope. One main reason I am doing this is so that I can get fuel into both the primary and secondary intake ports all the time to keep the valves clean AND to minimize the hot-cold effect (as I call it). I predict that the standard SVT has a stream of cool air and fuel coming in through the primary runner while a second stream of hot air is coming in through the secondary runner due to the split port and single injector. I want to make the fuel hit both ports so that the whole incoming charge is cooler; hopefully this will reduce chances of pre-ignition/detonation if the whole intake charge is at a lower temp.
I sold the heads and short block for just what I needed to cover investment costs on another motor. I could have auctioned them off but I wanted to help Jeff out and to have this stuff on the down low for a while so I didn't get bombarded with so many choices.
So, the end result is that in about 2-3 weeks the SVT will once again go under the knife and I'll try to create something new.
There are two other goals: First, I am going to research a way to cheaply turbo the engine with just a smaller crossover pipe, greatly reducing the cost of the piping and hence lowering the cost overall. If this works I will be selling my prototype turbo headers. Second, I am going to switch MAF's, so I am going to put my $600 Pro-M maf up for sale. For any of you who are going 3L turbo, this or something like it is mandatory for good driveability. Ask Burrita or anyone who saw the videos of how my car runs, it is very much a normal driving car. Most of the tuning problems other people are having are coming from the MAF's being put on the cars and the A/F being off/untuned. I spent a lot of money tuning this bad boy in over at SF and I am willing to sell it with a copy of the best MAF transfer function that I have so that whoever uses it will be able to just have the data burned onto their chip and start rolling.
That's it, when I am sure I am going to replace the turbo piping, then that will also go up for sale.

I think your figures are pretty accurate, but I will be running a program that allows advanced timing and Leaner A/F to obtain the numbers. I am no pro in the tuning world, but I have access to Street Flight and the Dyno, so I don't think it will be too hard. I may have to run 109Octane, but I will reach my goal. And safely, I might add. But all of that is irrelevant on our platform due to its un-dragracing friendly suspension. My buddy's WRX STi just ran a 12.92et with less wheel HP than I will have. The best I will hope for is about a 13.40et... From a roll, the car will be really impressive.

WHAT? Your going with a 3L turbo again but only changing the heads to oval port? No internals, or anything else?

Well, that isn't the only thing I am going to experiment with, however the rest is top secret. Suffice it to say that selling those heads was a hard decision, but since I think I can do just as well if not better on the new ones I wouldn't have sold them. Even then, I get some other benefits that helped tip the scales.

Thanks for hijacking my thread! Just kidding. I will pick up my "Round 2" project this morning. I can't wait to drive it!!!! I have a 5.5K Rev Limiter on it for a week or so. The motor has 5000 miles, but some bearings and whatnot are new, so I will baby it for 500+ miles. With a very conservative (just so it runs trouble free) tune, it put down 250FWHP and 230+FWTQ (IIRC) @5000 RPM's with 5# of boost. I think I may reach my intended numbers without breaking too much of a sweat. I need a new MAF and 30 or 42# return injectors (anyone got a set of those puppies???). I am using the stock MAF and 24# injectors. I will run out of fuel up top, I am sure... Especially with no FMU. I am very excited... I have not driven the car in 4 months.

Wow those are great numbers, mine took a almost a 30hp jump up at 5500 so you will blow by what I had. Remember I hit 303 FWHP but de-tuned to 278. With the master at SF tuning it you'll be able to hit your numbers.
What mods do you have above and beyone what I had?

It is so nice to drive it again. Here I am, back at work. I just went and picked it up. It is way stronger than before, even shifting at 4500 RPM's. It is a bit quirky and it will be a while before I feel 100% comfortable in it, but I am loving it.

That's awesome! I bet you are really proud now. I hope you hit the 300 wHP mark once you fix up your fuel injectors. I do have to point out that the 36# injectors have provided enough fuel to hit 350 at the wheels so I can't see you needing more than that with the vortech, though its your choice. If 42's are cheaper and easier to come by then so be it, but I would look for 30-36 range and call it good. Kinger: Top secret is what I call it when I want to test some idea that could turn out to suck. If it turns out good then I'll post it and if it sucks then I won't have people saying "I knew it" or the like. Most people find it very easy to point the finger when it is someone else's sweat and money. Suffice it to say that the ideas I want to test MAY turn out to yield good fruit for the turbo crowd. There is also the allure to having the 'exclusive' motor; however I've been indoctrinated by the scientific method for research at the university. I worked for a professor where we did research and then published the results afterward. I have my name as co-author on several papers; a fact that I am proud of. I will publish at least some of my results though possibly not all. There is still competition to think about after all.

Competition for what? Are you racing for money? If you do find your 'top secret' ideas and then publish them your competition will all know about it then right?
Sorry for giving you a hard time man, but if you think about it, all of our modding means nothing 5-10 years from now. No need for secrets for such a short lifespan

That's awesome, Jason! You're already 30 ft. lbs. above the old engine.

Too bad. I've got one of the best records for giving up information and trying to better the whole mod community. I won't stop that but I reserve the right not to cough up everything I do. I have a lot more I could say to this but its best to stop right here.

I got the car back today. The alternator wire broke loose and caused all types of issues. It was too much fun. While on the lift I took the opportunity to clean up some details, like correcting exhaust hangers and such. Anyway, my point is that I will be taking it (if my luck holds out) on Saturday to an Sport Compact Car Shoot Out at the local (Firebird) dragstrip. I hope to come close to mid 13's. I will keep you all posted.

Okay, so here is the update... I just got the car back from Ford for some warranty work... Yep, I said warranty! haha. I had a wheel bearing, wheel hub, and power steering pump replaced. They didn't even question me on the motor, the chip, the S/C.. Nothin. My service advisor is the freaking coolest. I felt kinda bad because he is caught in the middle. I will probably not have them replace the Idler Pulley that they say is bad. I will buy it and do it myself. Either way, for the first time I actually got on it a little. DDavis and I were tooling around and Damn! It is hella fast in comparison to the old motor. The torque comes on strong and lasts. The car breaks loose in 1-3 when the boost kicks in. Too damn cool...

On the way to work today, I was puttering along and an opening in traffic arose. I was tooling in 4th at like 50, and I downshifted (don't hold me to the speed, as I was just going by engine sound) into 3rd and stomped it. The wheels broke lose all too easily.
