i did a search, i swear, and i didn't find anything that helped a great deal. im gonna do my rear brakes i think they are orig. and they have about 166000 km on them, im kinda impressed, although i do mostly highway driving. im just want to know if i need special tools for rear drums, i have everything needed for front dics.

You need pliers. It would be much easier if a special tool was needed but Ford decided to be very stupid and you have to use pliers to get the springs off. It's a PITA but no special tools are needed.

if you have rear disk brakes you need the tool to turn the caliper piston back in because of the self adjusting parking brake. I think you can use pliers but this would make it alot easier, it should only cost a few $ at a parts store

I thought you had rear disk for a second. Yeah pliers will work fine. Check the condition of your springs replace as required.

I used to have a brake spring tool, back when I had a VW Beetle with drums. Would that be helpful?

Nope, my dad has all those tools but they have no use on the contiques. Pliers are about the only way and it really sucks until you get used to it then it just plain sucks.
