well... I did not do a search because I know I will come up with "this one is the best... etc" so, without being a complete prick, I'd simply like to know if anyone has either read, or themself done research on any specific oils. I'm getting my car back in a week or so with a new engine... I want my baby to be on the same oil for life, and I want it to be a good one. so what's the "best" synthetic, and the "best" regular oil??

No definitive best. Use mobil1, easy to get and a good synthetic.

Look, there are more than enough disscussions on this issue, I'll say too much that will even confuse you. I past the last three days reading on this site, and finnally found this link somebody posted: LinkTo quote just the important part... Quote:
One thing to remember is to always use conventional engine oil with no additives (Slick 50, Prolong, etc.) after an engine rebuild. The new engine parts depend on the characteristics of conventional oil to properly break in. A certain amount of friction during break-in is mandatory or the new components will fail and you may be greeted with scored bores and/or spun bearings.
I just did my first oil change today, and went with 10W30 Esso dino oil, that was my personal choice at 100k miles.

new engine, huh? try these as a starting point:
bob is the oil guy
and
hard break-in
My opinion, synthetic, all factors considered (cost, ease to obtain, quality, etc.) mobil1
conventional, don't really care. I've heard really good things about pennzoil. I've always been a valvoline man, but I'm going to mobil1 conventional for my daily driver. If they make a good syn, then the conventional is ok, right? Well, it's cheaper anyway. I'm ready for that car to die.

The Mobil (and not Mobil 1 as that is the trade name for the synthetic line) Drive Clean oils are pretty good oils, from what I've seen on BITOG's website.
Of course, the best oil may be FREE oil...
