I pulled this code today with my obdII scanner. sorry i just did a search and found all the info. it says that it could be an air leak from a number of places. Earlier today i stoped my car because i could smell an alcohol like smell so i pulled over and opened the hood. I could hear a "hissing" type noise comming from around the throttle body area. Maybe a little closer to the maf. So with this info could it be a gasket? any ideas throw them my way PLEASE. and is there anything wrong with my car, safe to drive or could ruin something?

The TB gasket is not likely to fail if you have not removed it. Look lower, at the hoses on the PCV valve.

The 1131 code is in all likelyhood a weak O2 sensor.
It won't hurt the car to drive it (probably)

mmm, I got 1131 as a pending code and don't THINK it's the sensor (sensor is pretty new), it could very very well be a leak.

a P1131 mean that the O2 sensor on bank #1 is dying and you will need to replace it. I had this code a few weeks ago on my contour and the O2 sensor took care of it. Note it is the one by the firewall, the hard one to reach.
Also my fathers 95 had the similar code for OBD1 and replacing the O2 sensor fixed the CEL
they are about $65 from Autozone for new O2 sensors, replace it and you should be all set.
A hint to replace that sensor, since there is little working space, get the proper wrench and cut it down to a size were it will fit in the alotted space

I've got this same code pending though my o2 sensor is almost new, so that's not what it always means. Here is what F111D F posted in my post about the same code:::
Here is the start of the process on the CD. Like most troubleshooting nowdays, propietary schooling would really be helpful. This CD has really made me dangerous, but it's better than nothing. IMHO. I've been told Mitchell's is the hot item??? Our county library has free access but not convenient set-up when your to train yourself.
H40 DTCs P1131, P1132, P1151 AND P1152: UPSTREAM HO2S NOT SWITCHING. DTC P1130: FUEL SYSTEM NOT SWITCHING AT FUEL TRIM (RICH OR LEAN)
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P1131 bank 1 (Cylinder 1) and P1151 bank 2 indicate the fuel/air ratio is correcting rich for an overly lean condition. The HO2S voltage is less than 0.45 volt. DTCs P1132 bank 1 (Cylinder 1) and P1152 bank 2 indicate the fuel/air ratio is correcting lean for an overly rich condition. The HO2S voltage is greater than 0.45 volt.
DTC P1130 and P1150 indicate the fuel control system has reached maximum compensation for a lean or rich condition and the HO2S is not switching.
DTC/HO2S Reference List
-- HO2S-11 = DTCs P1131, P1132 and P1130
-- HO2S-21 = DTCs P1151, P1152 and P1150
Possible causes:
Fuel system
-- Excessive fuel pressure.
-- Leaking fuel injector(s).
-- Leaking fuel pressure regulator.
-- Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel.
-- Contaminated fuel injector(s)
-- Vapor recovery system
Induction system
-- Air leaks after the MAF.
-- Vacuum leaks (vacuum lines and gaskets).
-- Restricted air inlet.
-- PCV system.
-- Improperly seated engine oil dipstick.
EGR System
-- Leaking gasket.
-- Stuck open EGR valve.
-- Leaking diaphragm.
Base engine
-- Oil overfill.
-- Cam timing.
-- Cylinder compression.
-- Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2Ss.
l Check intake air system for leaks, obstructions and damage.
l Check air cleaner element, air cleaner housing for blockage.
l Verify integrity of the PCV system.
l Check for vacuum leaks.

Ok now for the kicker. It shut off today, so does that mean It actually is just starting to go out or something to do with bad gas... Seeing how it went off that prolly elimintates a air leak from a gasket or hose right? So now just drive it and see if it comes back on or replace the O2 sensor? Car has 65,xxx miles on it bout

Is your car a duratec or zetec? My car also has shut off twice now at idle. I think we've got the same problem. A bad o2 sensor doesn't cause this, so we gotta find our problem.
