No, not 10w30. The mtx uses ATF fluid. There have been a lot of discussions in the past concerning the best. A lot of people will add a friction modifier to the ATF fluid. Personally, I use ATF-III.

Some people use ATF fluid, some people use manual transmission fluid. As stated, this has been covered many, many times.

Search the transaxle forum for "Redline MTL" and "Ford Synthetic"

That should give you the info you crave (and then some.)

Also search for tranny cocktail, might have to go to the archives for that. Use ATF though, I was told by Terry H. that MTX fluid (gear lube) is simply too thick for our trans, which was designed to use ATF.

He also likes the Ford "honey," which, IIUC, is Ford's newer synthetic. Apparently the original fluid has a habit of gunking up? Definitely not my area.

I reconmend using Redline MTL Fluid...I find it better then the ford honey or the Tranny Cocktail. But again, i have Terry Haines Bulldog tranny with the upgraded flow chanels. But form what i researched , with a stock MTX, the Redline MTL would provide more than enough protection for your trans.

Givin its 12 dollars a quart in my area, but it is well worth it...that may be some thing to look into before you decided to chose a your fluid.
