Welcome to CEG!

Please use the 'Search' button up top to search around for topics or answers to some of your questions...A lot of stuff can be answered with that nifty function.

Saying that, I did a search for 'High Mileage Water Pump' with the 'AND' function in ALL forums and came up with the following thread:

CLICK ME

Although some water pumps have lasted a long time (mine included....132k+ miles) its very common amongst some CEG'ers to replace the water pump with the metal impellar pump as 'Preventative Maint'.

Enjoy!

Just buy another one and keep it on hand just in case. Most people on this board have already been through two or three. If you search for waterpump there is alot of info.

As a general rule on my 89 Escort I would replace the waterpump at 150,000 miles or every other timing belt change.I have used this rule of thumb on my 89 Escort and it now has 301,000 miles on it.My 98 Mystique has 110,000
and I have not had a water pump problem.

I can't speak for the earlier model water pumps, but in 1999, Ford changed the design of the pump, and there haven't been many problems. I have over 130,000 miles on the original pump, and have no plans to replace it until it fails.

1 million miles???? yes it'll be ok until then because it won't have anything left to move water through.

I'd replace it, it's pretty easy to do on a duratec and not too expensive.

most people say their water pump has failed around 60k miles. my father 95 made 90k before the pump went, so just be careful and watch that temp guage

my waterpump (dunno if original) went to around 128,000 miles before i changed it. nothing wrong with it, i just figured i should change it while i was doing the timing belt.

oh, and btw... i bought it from o'reilly's, and it had a plastic impeller, don't know if that's bad on a zetec, but it seems ok, and old one wasn't cracked or anything.

This something we have in common with the BMW M3...plastic impellers for the w/p. They too have problems with them goign bad and suggest changing out the coolant on a regular basis too. This is said to reduce the amount of some type of acid build up in the coolant system, why not just use soem Tums or something I changed my coolant at 30K and now I'm debating on pulling that w/p pump off after reading the post about FoMoCo changing the w/p in 99'. Actually I thought they changed it in 00', but when did they actually change it?, do we have any inside info on that
