Hi - Just signed up in just before I purchase a Contour.
I have a question regarding the car I'm buying. It's a '99 with 2.5L and ATX and pretty much everything else except moonroof. The car has no other designation other than the regular contour tags and a couple of decals that say "sport."
Which model is this? Is it an LX with the sport package or an SE (There appears to be no SE designation anywhere.) It doesn't affect my decision, just curious.
BTW the car is $6500 with 31K from a local Subaru dealer with 3mo/3k warranty. I'm in Northern New Joisey.
TIA and looking forward to joining the club.
Regards, Mike Wafkowski

I'm not a genius on the model changes(things got hairy after 98), but it's probably an lx with the sport package. Check out the links on the main site for more info. They have the complete breakdown of different models. Are you sure you don't want a manual? I guess it's your call being your car and all. But if you are like most of the people here you will be wanting to go faster and modify/personalize your car. I know many of the people with the auto's probably wish they had the manual. If you're not sure then check out the classifieds here. There are tons of cars on this site as well as others. But maybe you're trading your old car in so what do I know. Don't get me wrong it's a nice car regardless. Just get what you really want I suppose. Don't settle for what is easiest. Welcome to the site. And for your future posts...anything regarding first mods, intake, mesh grills, best mod, yada yada....Try using the search feature, being that each of those questions has been asked 500 times. There are folks who will get all up in your sh!t and tell you to search instead of just answering your question. We call them search nazis. Beware of them. Again welcome to the site. Be careful you can become addicted.

It is probably an SE Sport. The same car I used to have. I don't know that LX even existed in 1999.
Edited to add: check here! http://www.contour.org/FAQ/FAQ.php?s=models
It was a good car although I began to hate the automatic once I started to be more concerned performance/fun wise.
The price seems a little steep to me but I don't know how that goes in your area.
If you think a 5 speed could work for you, you may want to check out the SVT version or even a 5 speed non-SVT. That is where the fun is.
Good luck and welcome to the world famous CEG!

Thanks for the welcome!
I do want the 5 speed but the car is "for my wife" 8^) and we're just dumping her '88 Civic 5spd in which she commuted 60 miles daily for 10 years in stop and go traffic and never wants again to see another MTX 8^(
I checked the FAQ regarding tour models that's why I asked here...couldn't make heads or tails out about which model I'm getting.
Just read the new thread about people and their troublesome cars and I'm getting cold feet...yikes!
Only kidding.
Peace, Mike Wafkowski

1999 Contours were: LX, SE, SE Sport, and SVT
LX was the cheapie. SE was like the old GL. There were no "LX Sport" cars from 1998.5-2000. 'Sport' package was V6 only in that time period, also.
LS was the top trim Mystique for all years. To add to the confusion, for 2000, there was a "Mystique Sport" in place of "Spree". A trim package for the Mystique GS.

LS was a Mystique model. If you had a Tour it was an LX.
