No you can't. What you can do is to gather data over a time period and create graphs out of it which can be very, very useful. It gives you access to a whole bunch of sensor data. I guess you can go to www.obd-2.com and download a demo version of the software to get a basic idea about it.
The user interface sucks (legacy of the '70s) but the data you get is great.
If have a CEL and need the code only drive to autozone and don't spend $ on a scanner.

Worthless? I just stated that some OBDII scanners do that.
