Well its the only zetec Ive ever driven. maybe something was up with it.. all the cylinders were firing. But why the hell would I lie about it? A CEG'r making up stuff to put down a contour? Theres enough crap against all our ford cars that there is no need. Im sorry I found the GL to be very underpowered. (maybe it needs a plasma engine) But to call me a liar is just plain childish.

I said OR YOU'RE LIEING. I know for a fact that my zetec stock would kill a hybrid and be pretty close with my mom's 02 civic. With mods, there's no question. That's why I'm saying something was up with one of the cars.

Actually it's not as far fetched of an idea as you might think. Stock Zetec MTXs run in the 9s IIRC and assuming drivetrain losses of the ATX (which is significant for the CD4E (?)) and a mid-10 to 11 second romp to 60 is, in it's entirety, honestly possible. I'm not stating this out of the blue, as my mom and dad shared a Duratec ATX while I piloted a Zetec ATX for several years. I have pictures and dealer stickers of both cars if you're willing to argue a point of falseness.

Moreover, the two times posted on a new Civic Hybrid that I've seen are 11.5 and 13.6 respectively, so, although you have full power to argue that you can beat a Hybrid, I wouldn't quite go so far as to call it an "absolute kill" if you're only winning by a max of 3-5 tenths of a second.

PS In no way am I defending the Honda, I'm just stating my own view.

Are hybrids available with a mtx? If so, that's most likely what they get the times using, so expect slower from a real life situation. Also I would KILL a hybrid (me not stock). And with less mods I walked a new corolla (more HP than a civic). So maybe a freakishly slow zetec 'tour and a freakishly fast civic hybrid could be close.

HAHA!! BURN! I had a Zetec loaner while my SVT was in the shop. I honestly could barely keep up with a CIVIC HYBRID!! He must have had a modified electric racing motor or something, I cant imagine struggling to keep up with 85hp

that must have been the shittiest Zetec ever...a stock Civic is not competition at all for my car...even without my intake and slight exhaust mod.

My mom has an automatic Civic...I drive it, then jump in my car and I say to myself holy sh!t what a big improvement. It may be the automatic vs manual thing coming into play but her 01 Civic LX has nothing on my zetec. So to say that...that must have been one piece of sh!t zetec you had.

Although I could see how it would feel that way losing about 70HP and all your torque. But the two aren't really comparable

Yes indeed, Hybrids are available with MTXs. Granted not all drivers will go to redline and bang shifts every single time they drive off from every single life. I hope you realise that I was just setting the scene that it IS possible, not that it WILL happen. Just letting you know without starting a flame war.

BTW, calling a Civic Hybrid "freakishly fast" is just plain sacrilege. Pure and simple.

With $25000?

Buy the drivetrain from a C5, there was one sold on ebay recently for under 7K. Included brakes, LS1, everything...

Make the LS1 fit under your hood and the running gear work. I'd guess the cost to be about $10K, it's pretty straightforward really. If it can be done in a Focus I'm sure the Tour wouldn't be too much harder, aside from the need to build a driveshaft tunnel (Focus already has one)

Set up twin turbos and call it a day (probably closer to 3 months)

Go to the track and surprise a few Vipers!

Long live the bowtie powered Ford!

I second this.
