Hello everyone. Recently my finance's 1998 Contour had a front coil spring failure. I found this odd as I work in the automobile industry and never see spring failures. This led me to an internet search for Contour spring failures and to this site where I found a lot of discussion on the issue.

I contacted Ford on this recall and unfortunately her car was built 2 months after they ended the notification and warranty extension (10 year/150k mile). They told me that since the VIN did not fit in the range, there was nothing Ford motor company will do or offer us and we are stuck with the repair bill. I would attack this myself as I have done many spring swaps, but I currently do not have the time or space for this.

Now, we live in Ohio (aka Rust Belt from all the salt) and the failure was from corrosion. Has any one been able to get some sort of compensation from Ford for this repair even though their vehicle was slightly out of the officially effected range?

Thanks for your time,
Dan
