My daughter's '96 Contour shredded the belt around 88,000 miles. It was replaced along with the tensioner.
My Mystique has 93,000 miles on the original belt.

You just never know...

Ford Canada recommends repacing the belt at 200,000 km or 120,000 miles.
I am at 170,000 km/101,000 miles , and am planning to replace this month.
OPINION: I think the belt tensioner starts crapping out before the belt.

if you feel the belt needs to be changed then do it

search and there are many tpoics on this point. I changed my belt at 104k and it looked like new. the tensioner was about to split in half....

original service would have been 60k like any belt but since few were breaking Ford upped the service interval to 80k.

I remember reading that Ford told someone it was to last the life of the car. If you sell your car before 100k, assuming you got it new it lasted the life of the car. now for the next owner that may not hold

I'd be interested in knowing what the condition of your belt is when you change it.
Mine seems to look okay when I've taken off the cover.
