I'd appreciate any help here. Just add what you think is a common question. I'll start with the easiest .
Our bolt pattern is 4 x 108.

Lol. I was just putting out a question for the FAQ.
I think the newest Cougars had the same pattern as well.

How about:
- Will 225/50 fit stock rims without rubbing (YES!) - Does 225/50 throw off the speedo noticeably (NO!) - What are popular upgrade sizes for stock rims because 215/50 is so hard to find (205/55, 225/50, 225/45) - What are some of the popular replacement tires at each price point? - If I replace my KDWs with all-season tires, will I notice the difference? (YES!)

Benefits (if any) of running 7.5" vs. 7" on 17's, 18's so on and different offsets the different width wheels that should be run.
Thought that might want to be addressed as well...

I was just wondering are the wheels that fit on an SVT able to fit on a non SVT contour of the same year? Or do they all have the same wheel well size? Because i was reading some of the posts/threads in this section and i just wanted to make sure the information i was reading would apply to my stocked out '98 tour.

Hello guys. I'm new (obviously). I've thread through this thread, and heard you guys say that the Focus had the same bolt pattern numerous times, but do they run the same offset as out Contours? I'm wondering because I am really interesting in buying a set of gold Focus Rally wheels from Ford Racing, but I would like to make sure that these wheels will fit properly before I spend ~$650 on wheels. Here is a link, if needed: http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=7006The wheels have a 5.94" backspacing, is this the same as the SVT Contour? Sorry about the 20 questions, but I would just like to make things crystal clear before dropping a lot of money on something like this. If anyone has any experience with these wheels on the Contour, I would greatly appreciate it. THANKS!

I have seen my 4x108 Enkei DM-5 on Honda Civics, Volkswagen Beatles, and of course the SVT...
What I want to know is if it is even possible to mount 4x100 style rims, someone is throwing away fugly rims for $20 and would be perfect for 1/8m rims.

if 4x100 wheels fit on our car, then our lug pattern would be 4x100, which its not. its 4x108.

Wheel makers will have a dual bolt pattern quite - 4x108 and 4x100 for example - hence why you see the same wheels on our cars and Hondas, at times.
You CANNOT rig the 4x100 bolt pattern onto a 4x108 hub and vice versa.
End of story.

u should be ok. those look like the euro focus svt wheels which come in argent, black, white, gold. iirc they are like 49 offset. check batinc.net they should have them and list the specs. i checked for u. they r $155 in all colors my argent, which r cheaper. search and u should find pics of contours with these wheels, i think most guys got the svt argent ones so fitment shouldnt be a problem

Discount Tire Co (I know, laugh it up, whatever) told me that the same rims fit Hondas. I guess I just need to look up the 2000's and the 2005's bolt patterns for the Civic.
But in reference to the bolt pattern above, there are two different types incorporated into the wheel(probably 4x108 and 4x100) which means these can fit on the Civics using the other bolt pattern on my wheel
I was never saying that my 4x108 rims fit on Civics using the 4x108...

Here are a couple of links to the TireRack with some very good information on tire size vs. wheel size and more. I have seen a lot of conflicting information regarding what tire sizes you can mount on a specific wheel width - hopefully this will provide some insight. Tire specs tire tech

Here are a couple formulas for figuring out offset and backspacing.
Let's use the SVT Contour wheel for example. We know that the wheel is 6.5 inches wide. So we start by dividing that number in half to get to the center of the wheel, and then adding a half-inch to accomodate for wheel lip. We've now got a total of 3.75 inches. Knowing that the backspacing on this wheel is 5.69 inches, we can get an easy approximation using this formula:
5.69 (backspacing) - 3.75 = 1.94 1.94 x 25.4 (conversion to millimeters) = 49.276
So we know that the approximate offset on this wheel is 49mm millimeters.
To calculate backspacing you use this formula:
(rim width ) / 2 + 0.5 + (offset /25.4) = backspacking
So for a SVT Contour Wheel: 6.5/ 2 + 0.5 + (49.276/ 25.4) = 5.69"

Here are some good tire choices:
For all-season use (not much snow), and good treadwear, the Falken Ziex ZE512 is a favorite. It's probably the stickiest, best-handling all-season out there, and it's very cheap.
For a summer tire, you have a lot of choices. One of the best tires out there is the Yokohama Advan Neova AD07. It's super-grippy, rides well, handles rain well, but costs a pretty penny. Another great all-around tire that's sickeningly fast is the Kuhmo MX. Good treadwear for such a sticky tire, and pretty inexpensive. The Falken Azenis 615 is an autocross tire with super-stiff sidewalls that's probably overkill if you don't have a very stiff suspension. Still a great tire, but it's not quite as good an all-around street tire as the Kuhmo and Yokohama. The Hankook Ventus Z212 is another tire in the same Max Performance class, but it's pretty soft, and the Kuhmo will probably give you many more miles for the same money.
For a less-expensive tire, the Kuhmo ASX, the Fuzion ZRi, the Yokohama AVS ES100, the Avon Tech M500, and a couple other tires offer a lot of stick for not much money. I had the Fuzions and was pretty happy - very cheap, and quite sticky. I think the AVS ES100 is a better overall tire in terms of street manners. The Kuhmo and Avon are probably similar, but I've never driven them.

For street tires that are better in the rain than the sticky autocross type tires listed above (Azenis/Z212/MX), you can go to the AD07 or it's kin. Tires more like the AD07 include the Goodyear GS-D3, BF Goodrich KDW2, Toyo T1R, and Bridgestone S03 and RE050. But, the Yoko is much grippier all around than the others, and really in a class by itself. Now, however, there is another tire that's very similar: the Bridgestone RE01R. It's expensive, like the Yoko, but offers massive levels of wet and dry grip, while maintaining a level of street manners above the Azenis/Z212/MX.
New summary:
What summer tires should I get for my Contour?
Falken Ziex ZE 512 - Cheap, but very grippy in wet and dry for the money.
Falken Azenis 615 - A bit pricey, but great for autocross. Stiff sidewall, very grippy, not so good on the street.
Kumo MX - More streetable than the Azenis. Possibly the best dry grip/$ out there. $95 shipped from tirerack in 225/50R16.
Hankook Z212 - Worse treadwear but better wet grip than the MX, for the same price at DTD.
Or one of the expensive tires like the KDW2, GS-D3, AD07, RE010R, S03, T1R, etc.
ERROR: I meant Kumho SPT, not ASX, in the post above. The ASX is more like the ZE512, and seems to be a decent tire, but it's not at all in the class with the other summer-only econo-stickies.

Yeah, 225/50R16 are $118 shipped from DiscountTireDirect.com. That's not bad, but it's over $100 per set more than the MX. For autocrossers, the Azenis are the way to go, and for street use I'd go with MXs.

Can someone post what load ratings are acceptable for the contour. I am looking at a set of tires that are exactly the same, except the load ratings are 87W and 91H. There is a $36 price difference per tire. Just wondering if the lower rating acceptable.
