Damn you WNDITUP!!! Now I'm reconsidering the whole game again
Here's an example of a system I priced out:
XP Home Edition
Extra Mid Case P4 400W (silver)
USB Jack
2 round ATA 133 cables
1.44 MB floppy drive (silver)
40x CD-RW drive (silver)
1 round floppy cable
Wireless keyboard & mouse (silver/black)
2 extra case fans
10 outlet surge protector w/ EMI-RFI & Fax
Asus P4S800 Motherboard. SIS648FX /DDR400 /AGP8X /800 FSB /6ch. audio
Pentium 4 2.53 GHz/ 533 MHz FSB
1GB PC-3200 DDRAM
100GB Western Digital HDD/ 8MB buffer/ 7200 rpm
TI-4280 GeForce 4/ 128MB DDR/ AGP 8x/ TV out
Samsung 12x DVD-ROM/ DVD decoder software
19? Samsung 950 B/ 0.22mm dpi
Harman Kardon HK 395 3 Pc-Speakers with Subwoofer/ 30W RMS
I priced this system out and then compared it to a popular online vendor's offerings. Difference: I could make a nice profit selling this for about $1450, whereas the online vendor sold it for over $1850.
Granted, they had some extra software, but I could toss that in for under $100 and try to find the sweet spot between retail price and profit margin. Hmmmmmmmmm
Also, one thing I've always thought of when doing this is having an online database of drivers for each system sold. In other words, you get online, type in your s/n or username or customer # or etc. and get access to all the drivers your system came preinstalled with. No hunting and pecking through drivers for your graphics card...just hit the site, plug in the info and there's the exact one you need.
