i have a 98 se mtx with cruise, i noticed that my cruise didnt work and also my brake lights were out, i replaced the fuse and the lights worked i drove for 15 mins and the fuse was out again.

i noticed that when the fuse is replaced i can push the brakes as much as i want and they work . but once i start driving and go above 60km/hr (when the cruise is avail) i have no brake lights. i think it may be realted to something in the cruise control thats doing it but i am not sure it may just be coincedence that it is only happening after i drive...

please help at all if you can i have to drive but cant do it without brake lights....
thanks,
john

Review of circuit gives me no quick ideas re your problem of blowing fuse 24 15 amp interior fuse panel.

To get you safe I would suggest disconnecting 10 pin connector at cruise module (behind strut tower - driver's side) to see if that eliminates fuse blowing.

i took out the cruise plug and it still blew a fuse. im getting woriied cause im not sure ehat would cause this and i would hate to have to take it to a shop for a troubleshooting session cause theytend to get expensive..

i did have a similar problem on my porsche but it didnt blow fuses the brake lights just didnt work i ended up changing the switch. just a primitive little switch that contacts the brake pedal....do contours have a similar item? and if so how would this blow fuses in the above mentioned way? very odd. any help would be really really welcome im really stuck...

thanks
john

not to confuse, but whnen i say i have no lights above 60jmhr it seems thats when it blows a fuse....

OK, next step would be to check the two switches that contact brake pedal and their associated mounting/wiring. Just follow the pedal arm up; one is for brake lights the other for cruise disengage.
It maybe that you've raised a red herring re min. cruise speed. Perhaps it's simply car motion causing a loose wire to short.
