great...

finally swapped my winter tires for my summer tires this am (I know I'm late)

guy comes out and says....sorry, but when backing off the lift, I ripped off one of your sideskirts.....

so, I gouge his eye out, hit him in the knees w/a 2x4 and jam his head in a vice...ok I didn't, but I felt like it.

shop said they'd replace w/a new one. any idea how much a new one costs? I think they're gonna be in for a shock!!

damn ride looks lopsided now

oh, tranny troubles, now this!!

I need a long weekend....

Did you brake a truck load of mirrors, or walk under a score of ladders in the last few months?

d'oh
at least they're owning up and paying for it.
that should give you some piece of mind.
Yeah it may look crappy and it's a hassle to let them have the car longer to get it fixed, but it will get fixed and then you will be happy again. yay!
keep ya chin up.

Sorry to hear that, man!

Yah- I hear ya about being angry! We did that twice- once to the T-Red one (driving out of a bank parking lot, scratched the whole passenger side skirt), and now, on the SF...we were in a touch free car wash the night before leaving for Florida in March. When we pulled out, we heard something really loud. When we got out, we realized that the dumb thing that keeps your tires in place in the car wash had ripped the sideskirt right off (and busted one of the jackstand covers). GRRR!

IIRC, they got for at least $200 (then, you gotta paint it).

Oh- and at least you got your summer wheels back on...when we busted ours in March, we had to keep the sideskirt off and we had on our steelies. We were quite the Ghetto Contour for a few weeks.

Hope everything works out in the end!

hey now!
naughty boy, obviously you're joking though.

I'd do some searching on the boards here for people who've had to replace SVT sideskirts and if they were able to get them shipped already painted.

I just went out and did a search on the net for different companies that sell body parts. I found a whole lot of stuff for the Contour and the SVT model. Like grilles, headlight assemblies, bumper covers, OEM spoilers, etc. Unfortunatley none of the sites I visited listed body moldings.

However, one of the great things Ford does is they put their part number on just about every part they make. So if you took the broken side skirt and look it over you'll find the Ford part number. Just take that number to your local Ford dealer and they can look it up and get you a price.

Now remember, a replacement side skirt is likely going to come with just grey or black primer and will have to be painted to match. I'd say that a fair estimate would be that the painting will cost as much as the skirt and I'll wager on the skirt costing about $150 - $180 with about $100 to $150 for paint and then some more for instalation, They're looking at about $400 to $500 if you decide to go the route of replacing the part.

The side skirt being made of plastic, unless its damamged beyond recognition it can be repaired by a shop that knows their stuff for less than the cost of a new one.

Or maybe check out the calssifides section of this site and see if anyone is selling a used one, or post an ad letting others know you're looking for one. I'm sure that with the number of people installing aftermarket body kits on their cars there's likely to be someone out there with the stock parts sitting around looking for a new home. Again, you may need to have some paint work done to match up the new one with the rest of the car.
