I had my original ATX replaced at 37,000 miles under Ford Extended Service plan. A second one went in a week or two later because the new one started leaking.

You add one in combination with the stock cooler. Very good mod!

I am currently on my third CD4E right now.
Original overheated so bad, that it overheated my engine, cooked my Catalytic Converters, and my AC Compressor, at 31,000 miles and was covered by the Premium Care Protection Plan.
The NEW FORD CD4E that replaced the Original died the same horrible death after 50,000 miles. This one didn't get a chance to cook anything because I installed an Autometer Transmission Fluid Temp gauge, so I could monitor the fluid temperature.
When the FORD REMAN CD4E was installed to replace the second CD4E, I had an Air-to-Oil cooler installed by my dealership. They installed whatever FORD had available in their accessory catalog, and I was fortunate enough to be able to get it before FORD discontinued it.
This job was on my dime to the tune of $2700. FORD REFUSED to even assist me in any way. I would of been happy if they covered at least half of the expense.

It got EXTREMELY close to the red and that was what worried me enough to get the Transmission Fluid Temp Gauge.
And to top it off the temp got up near the red while I was HIGHWAY driving !!

I got 96K on mine, still shifts well. The key to tranny longevity in any car is to periodically CHANGE the fluid regularly. In our case, it means draining and refilling (filter is inaccessible).
The owners manual says to do the drain/refill/drain/refill procedure every 30K. Should get out up 6 quarts of fluid.
Also add a bottle of Lubeguard. Heard its pretty good stuff.

I flush my trans every 20 to 25K!
