I'm there, Dallas, TX, 1 week from today.

Any feedback from people who have already done it?

I went. It was pretty cool. But, I got to say those 6s look better than they handle, that's for sure! They still handle like a grocery getter.

Dude, you can't be serious?!!!!

Those 6s's are NUTZ. The race prepped ones. I had an awesome time, I'm even considering the RX-8 as the CSVT's replacement!

The race prepped ones had a bosal exhaust, some intake tinkering (that's all they told me), and had eibach springs. There was body roll, but believe you me, those Falken Azeni Sports helped HUG the track. I thought the steering was far more precise and solid than what we have on the CSVT, and felt comparable to a 330i I drove not too long ago.

I did allright, the Club pro posted a time of 28seconds, and my BEST time was 33seconds. Mind you, I was uncomfortable in this car. I wasn't pushing it as much as I should've. It just seemed to risky. I don't know, not bad for my first AutoX experience, and I beat my buddy who I came with, so I was happy with that.

Other people were posting 29's and 30's, but they were in the "pro" category, I was in the "novice".

You should go, just because it's $39 and you can beat the crap out of their cars. I test drove a ProtegeSpeed, a Miata LS, and though underpowered, I liked the 6 speed gear box on the miata.

The RX'8's on display were awesome, nicely done interiors, great engine, defintley race inspired engine+suspension. . .

Are the cars that are used for the timed laps Manual or automatics?

And what's the difference between "pro" and "novice" and what category winner gets to go to Laguna Sega?

All autos, but they have tiptronic

I'm not sure about the Pro/Novice difference. The fastest time from each city gets to go to Laguna Seca, and then there are 5 wildcard slots. I'm friends/co-workers with the current leader in the US. He's from Houston, the only person so far to beat the Pro time. He is a bad-a$$ SCCA racer.

Actually, I tested the tiptronic, I consistently posted better times with it. They tell you not to use it, I was like whatever. . .you'll basically be in 2nd the WHOLE course, so it's better to keep her in the sweet spot using that, otherwise, the car shifts into third, and you'll waste a ton of time (or the comp will) downshifting in turns, you can just go into the turns at 5000rpms in 2nd as opposed to 2500 in third. . .

I don't know about your car, but my CSVT with the H&R's, Koni's, Stiffened suspension and chassis, will run circles around that car in an auto-x. I am very unimpressed with cars that lean too much. It still feels like a fancified grocery getter to me. Maybe by the time I did the stuff to it that I have done to my car I would love it. But, it needs some grunt and some stiffening bad!

However, I do agree that the Miata is a nice package, but can't by/buy the RX-8, because of no torque, especially low-end. Go drive an EVO VIII, and you will see what a true high performance sport sedan is all about, That car at $30,000 is the best damned deal in performance autos right now. When the Subaru STi comes out, that may change. But right now the EVO will hang with a 911 Porsche that cost $80,00 plus, and hands down stomp a Boxster S!!

I guess we had better learn to love the Mazda6 as that appears to be Ford's chassis of choice for the next 10 or so new sedans. It must be a pretty adaptable chassis to go from Mazda to Ford to Mercury to Lincoln.

Hey, does anyone know if you have to wear long pants or not? I thought I read that somewhere but I can't find it anywhere.

I thought I read in the FAQ you had to , but someone from another board went there yesterday and said he and 99% of the people were wering shorts and they all did the contest so I guess it's ok.

From the FAQ:

What about clothes?
We'd prefer you wear comfortable clothes. Long pants and long sleeves are best and we will ask you not to wear shorts, open-toed shoes or sandals. If you want to wear your thousand dollar, flame-retardant, one-piece, Formula One racing suit to intimidate the other competitive drivers - be our guest.

It's going to be hot and humid when we race in July so I will probably be wearing shorts.

I just got back from it, shorts and t-shirt are just fine. Since all the courses are different, it's kinda tough to compare times, but our pro-time was mid 31's, my time was 35.984, 471 points.

I improved about 2 seconds from my first run. If I could have kept doing it about 10-12 times, I'd have been even better.

It is a real good time though.

We had a great time today. Got some redneck tan, too.

Yeah, everyone else was out there taking things seriously, and there you are, cruising around the track playing with all the little gadgets...."Wow, 7 speed wipers, how cool is that?!?!"

Sup guys, i just got back from Dallas around 5pm... The Rev it up was fun...

I Liked:
- Getting to drive brand new cars hard as hell and not get in trouble.
- The clinics availible.
- The baseball-hat in the "Goodie" bag.
- Overall Experience.

I Didn't Like:
- Throttle Response (1sec. from when you floor it to when it goes).
- Body roll.
- The lady who checked us in at Marriott Solana, she was in a Baaad mood.

My best run in Dallas was 35.0** w/ 511 points. The Pro-Index was 31.7**.

Overall, for $39 you can't beat it!!! It was awesome, my friends and I had a blast. Although we didn't know where to go Sat. Night, we just went to downtown Ft. Worth, and tried to find a titty bar.

I'll have to agree with you on body roll, but the Eibach's made it a lot better, I think. . .not like my csvt with the koni's, but whatever, it's a 6s . . .now, NEXT year with the RX-8, that should be fun. . .like it'll ever happen. . .

Now that the Rev It Up has completed the tour, I finished in the top 20% over-all. How did everyone else do? They had more than 21,000 drivers!

i was not at all impressed with the Rev-It-Up event nor the Mazda 6.

the event was really poorly organized. too much lag time in between drives, the lines were WAY too long, and NO FREE FOOD! i expected to at least get a sandwich and coke with my $30 entry fee. i thought it was a real rip off. and they were such azzholes at the test drive tent where they had the MazdaSpeed Protege and the Miata. only 1 of each car and "no squealing the tires or you'll be asked to leave." what a bunch of crap!

i have gone to a number of similar driving events: Volvo, Saab, BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes, GM...and this was by far the worst.

and the car was not that impressive either. the more i look at them, the less i like the styling. even with the Eibachs and sticky tires, i thought the car was squishy. the automatic tranny sucks big time. throttle response was very slow and the tiptronic shifter was worse than just living it in "D". the manual tranny is definitely the way to go with this car.

one high point was being able to see, hear, and play with the RX8. other than that, it was a true waste of a nice sunday morning.

Baco99, I totally agree with you. I've been to similar events also, and the Mazda Rev It Up event just plain sucked in comparison. 39 dollars, for what? I just don't get the concept of paying for a commercial. It's kind of like paying for a t-shirt with a company logo on it. If you're going to advertise for them, shouldn't they at least give you the shirt? From Mazda's web site, it looked as if the speeds were going to be a lot higher than 30 or 40mph, which is why I went. I loved how they nickel and dimmed you, I can't remember the last time that I paid three dollars for a 20oz. bottle of water.

I agree with both of you guys that it could have been significantly better. I also thought the course was not matched to the car. I would have much rather had the Mazdaspeed for that course, and I really expected a lot more track time. Did get a snazzy little hat for $39.00! I still enjoyed the day, we had great weather, and I got to see some people I never would have seen elsewhere. I did have the small bonus of running with a couple of buddies.

baco -- They said don't dump the clutch on the MazdaSpeed or you'll be kicked out. Needless to say, I did it anyways and got kicked out. Good thing I was leaving anyways!

My 1st run was about .5 sec. quicker. I drove the go-karts right before my 2nd run, and I must have thought I was still in a go-kart when I made my 2nd run - I came into the 1st turn way too hot

I agree the food should have been free. The GM event held a few weeks prior had no entry fee and free lunch.

In general, the clinics were too much waiting and not enough seat time. Also, they only had 1 ambulance there - when it got called away on a rescue, the whole operation shut down for an hour. Great planning

Sitting in the RX-8 piqued my interest. I'm gonna have to test drive one.

they kicked a guy out for squealing the tires on the automatic Miata around a corner. they said the practice tracks and main event were for racing. the test drive area was only for test drives.

i DID like the MazdaSpeed Protege. it had a nice sound to it.
