just a quick simple question... what's the average life spand of the zetec's timing belt and about how much are they costing these days to get replaced??? thanx.

for pice see this thread on the front page of the Zetec section the belt should be changed about every 60,000 miles

i'm guessing it's original belt at 91k miles.

I changed the belt at 104k and now the car has 115k
the belt was fine but the tensioner was about to split in half
- 95 Mystique LS - Zetec/5spd
- 99 Contour SeVT Sport - Duratec/5spd

would a streched out belt cause the engine too have very light minor rev probs?

Now that is scary!
thinking about it now, it could have been. when i held the tensioner up to a light you could see the cracks, they were about 180 degrees apart and kinda close to the edge. of yeah all three pullies were rounded off to the point that the timing belt was not centered on the cam gears. I though I do not recal any running problems
