A question for all you Zetec buffs.....Why is the Zetec 4 cyl used instead of the Duratec 4cyl?
I was just curious to if any one knew.
the reason i ask is because in a Mazda 6 articale, it mentions the Duratec 4 cyl.

Out on a limb here, but probably for simplicity's sake. You don't want two (3 counting the SVT D-tec) "Duratec" models in a single car. I'm not sure how much difference there is btwn. the Zetec and D-tec4...maybe less than we think?

Its all very possible....i was just asking becasue i couldn;t find it in the search and i thought in would be an intresting topic to discuss...you never know it might be an alternative engine that might be better than the Zetec.
Just food for thought!

Also going out on a limb...but is it at all possible that the Duratec 4 wasn't invented at the time of creation of the Contour? I've only recently heard of it in the European Focus RS...just a thought.

this wis a simple reason the Zetec was used instead of the duratec 4cyl that's because it didn't exist until 2000.... kind of hard to put it in a 1995 contour when it is 5 years before production even harder for a pre 1995 mondeo.
2003 Subaru WRX some mods
Even if you don't have the answer, you certainly have to admire the problem.

Also, goin out on a limb...
But the duratec that is on the Focus RS is the US Zetec, same engine different badging. Ford of Europe calls the zetec, duratec.. and there are the 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0L duratecs, RS uses the 2.0.
