Im looking for specific information on the 2.5/3.0 liter duratec....

i too am bitten by the horsepower bug and i want to start to build a motor that i can enjoy for years to come. ive decied to go the 3.0 route for now (w/ small shot of nos) to keep me happy for now with plans of forced induction later down the road.

im going to get a taurus (99') block to start the process.
what i need to know, is there a major difference between the the taurus and contour cranks? aka: forging, treating, or dementions of the crank. if not i want to take the stock crank and have it worked on for extra durability

also i want to have custom rods made for the car and i need the specific rod specifications. ie, wristpin size, crank bearing size, center to center length, overall length, width at the big end, i need this to start the process of finding some one to build them (crower makes custom 4340 steel billet rods) i plan on spending a good 1500 or so on the bottom end not including the stock taurus components

anyway if you guys have the info i need please let me know

thanks matt

just a little FYI.

I was planning on the same thing about 4 months ago. To do it right your looking at 6500 in parts alone......

wooo hooo your in luck! got a group buy going on right now with rods. cunningham wants $1080 for rods and a 10-12 week lead time. puater machine wants $1026 for rods and a 6 week lead time, but nikolas from duratecperformance.com is getting a group buy together. if we get one more person, we can get the pauter rods for $950! its a great deal check out my post for more info.

if you want the info on specs and what type of rods youll be getting with pauter check this site out.

http://www.pauter.com/mazda_ford.htm

as for differences. the 2.5L and 3.0L rods are the same specs. the 3.0L crank is different however because the counter weights are different due to the bigger pistons.

as for the $6500 just in bottom end...i guess that would be if your looking for a custom billet crank, which will run you about $3500 according to terry. just get the stock one knife edged and balaced.

First: The 3L has bigger pistons so the crank is counterweighted differently, therefore it is a different crank. The shortblock is interchangeable but not the individual parts.

See buckshot77 since he has custom rods from someplace and can probably order them for you. They are $$$$$!!!
If you want someone else to do it, get your 3L and dissassemble it and send the company one of your stock 3L (2.5L rods are the same IIRC) rods to work with. THey can match it easily.

ricks rods are from cunningham and he got a heck of a deal. as for me, i got quoted $180 a rod from cunningham with a 10-12 week time. works out to be $1080. from pauter with the group buy its $950. $130 in savings.

The prices are for forged rods right? What about forged low compression pistons, how much they might cost each?
