Hey guys. I am looking for Z-rated tires for my '95 SE. I went to NTB and the only z rates that had for my car are pirelli's(think that is how you spell it.)They were like $580 mounted. You guys have any ideas where I can look for more options?
Thanks -Chris

Why on earth would you need Z-rated tires on a car with a 110mph speed limiter?

even without the speed limiter, V rated would be plenty good enough.
and get them from Tirerack.com. NTB is overpriced.

H-rated tires come standard on most non-sport sedans including the Taurus, and they're rated at 130 mph. Is his question still irrelevant?
Typically, the higher the speed rating, the softer the rubber is, and the better the tire handles in precision driving...it's not necessarily a matter of him going in excess of 149 mph.

Agreed on Tire Rack. You didn't say what size rims you have but the Firestone SZ 50 EP's are great tires for summer driving or year round if you don't get snow. Ask for Luke at the Tire Rack.

Okay, so how much precision do you need in an SE??? FWIW, my S rated Yoko Avid Tourings are hard to break loose.

I didn't realize anyone actually made or sold S rated tires...I've never seen them on any car before...how much they cost?
As far as 'breaking them loose', I've squeeled my Z rated Dunlops on a couple of occasions, it all just depends on how you're driving.

I wanted more "precision" by getting better tires.I already have awsome handling in my car already.
I've driven a 98(and newer) SE's and it seems that my 95 has better handling. I guess I am looking to build on what I already have.A couple friends of mine have Z's on their cars. The Z rates made their cars handle better and their cars didn't handle as well as mine in the first place.

The All-Season Avid Touring radials were developed by Yokohama to be smooth, quiet and obedient while providing good wet and dry traction, long treadwear and overall value in order to meet the year round driving needs of imported and domestic coupe and sedan drivers.
The Yokohama Avid Touring radialā??s tread pattern features independent shoulder and intermediate tread blocks combined with continuous center ribs to enhance year round traction while providing ride comfort and reducing noise. The tireā??s four wide circumferential grooves are combined with lateral grooves and high density sipes to enhance traction on wet roads and in light snow. Internally, the Avid Touring features twin steel belts to provide strength and long term durability, Perflex Sidewall Construction to increase handling response and a Contoured Bead Design for better tire-to-rim fit resulting in a smoother ride.
Yokohama Avid Touring tires feature subtle blackwall styling and are available in 75-, 70-, 65-, and 60-series; S-speed rated sizes for 13" through 16" wheel diameters.
