My roommate has a zx2 and he was looking on this site and they were talking about a zx2 s/r beating a SVT. I was just wondering how true this is.

zx2 site

I thought this was intresting too.

This topic was debated a few weeks back....it became more trouble than its worth. Give me the curb weight, the hp and torque and any one here can tell you if it can beat it or not....But I have raced a lot of them on my friends track. Only one beat me and it was turbo charged. Pushing about 250 to the crank where as I am only near 225 (High estimate)
But A stock one even with simple bolt ons has never touched me. I have beaten them by 3 car lengths or more.

But then again none of the people who drove them are experienced drivers. If one was more experienced than me....he may be able to do better..but not beat me.

hopefuly this topic will not bring up "the beaten horse"

I have a 99 SE....Give it to you this way, I ran a HORRIBLE time my first time on a dragway (spun tires, missed 2ond BIG TIME), and was beat by a blue ZX2. It ran a 17.4 and he ran a 17.1. I then came back and ran 2 seconds quicker on the 3ird run (see below) 15.4... (2ond run I ran a 15.6) I have no idea why they posted that. It might've been a 4 cylinder with an SVT body kit (kinda like me, but I might be up to SVT stock performance now with all the mods ) What is the weight on those Escorts anyway? I know the V6 Contours weigh around 2950 without the driver. Haha the Escort guy really could've beed racing an SVT with 5 people in it Oh well, mabee he emptied out his car and all he has is a seat That's why he won...

I don't know anything about this S/R version of the ZX2, but the normal ones aren't competent enough to take out a normal contour v6 mtx. My buddy was going to buy one in 98 when the lease on his 95 GL V6 was up and he gave it a test drive. He ended up with another v6 GL because it felt stronger. I ran his old car against it when he was on his test drive and it ate the zx2 up every time. I suppose with some good bolt-ons it could hang with or beat a normal duratech or a weak svt.
But I have to say, that guy thinks a lot of himself since he beat a CSVT, its kind of flattering really. Now we know how the Maxima guys and the mustange guys feel when we talk about our thrilling victories. AND why so many of them get pissed...cars are such status symbols

warmonger

the S/R has 145HP instead of 130hp that the Zetec normally comes with.... Icaman intake can't remember who makes the exaust on them off hand but it not like the cheap crap ford usuallyput on their cars. and the S/R's with a good driver can run in the 15's without any other mods done to them. with a half way deacent driver the standard ZX2 MTX is a mid to low 16 second car.

It has the Borla exhaust. If anyone wants one there is one at the dealer by my house.

Here is a little more info I found on another site.
Quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The S\R comes with a iceman intake, tokyo racing struts and eibach racing springs(1.7 in. drop), dual plated centerforce drag racing clutch that has 90% more griping power than stock, a visteon performance computer (not just a chip), a total borla catback exhaust, a short throww shifter, and some extras like a 150 speedometer, and other neat little things. Performance is above or around 160 and reports of the quarter-mile time of 15.4 seconds.
