Upon trying to lower our monthly costs we have decided to cancel our home phone and go with a cell phone since my wife needs one for the road anyway. I have done a little bit of research on plans and the following is what I came up with:

Sprint = Terrible... please don't even recommend it to me, had it, cancelled it.

ATT = Good deal at $39.99, 1000 minutes with LD included. Had it with great success, loved it.

Cingular = Comparable deal to ATT (although can't verify it, for some reason I can't access thier website from work). Never tried them, so can't speculate.

Verizon = Expensive and not very good plans in my area.

So the choices are pretty much between ATT and Cingular, anybody have any intellectual criticism or pros/cons about either of these? Thanks everyone.

I have had ATT since I've moved down here. I have 300 anytime minutes, and 3000 nights/weekend minutes. Free long distance, Etcetc. $40 a month. Love it. There are bad spots in coverage but I think you'll find that with most wireless providers. I vote ATT :-)

Cigular has a great promotion going right now:

$29.99 = 5,300 minutes! 300 Anytime minutes and 5,000 Nights & Weekends (when the home phone would be used anyway). Includes LD & free phone!! Down side is it requires a 2 year service agreement AND roaming is $.79/minute

with AT&T i get the same thing and good service. when i had sprint my calls were getting dropped all the time and that's in places like Springfeild or on the interstate. AT&T hasn't done that yet.

Sprint sucks major a$$.

I know almost 10 people (including myself) that have switched from Sprint to AT&T and have been nothing but happy.

My plan:
Unlimited nights & weekends
500 AT&T to AT&T user minutes
600 (or 700) anytime minutes

Ma signal almost everywhere I go.

I've had all sprint, cingular, and ATT. Sprint was my first cell and I hated it! Cingular was my second and it was alright but still dropped service everywhere in mont county and in frederick didn't know where it was. It cost more also. Now ATT is awesome, I have that currently and yes it does drop service some areas but mostly it is clear. I have free nights free weekends 800 mins, free roaming and free long distance for 44.99. I did have all that and 660 mins for 34.99 but I needed to up that, I talk about 2000 mins a month. So I love ATT and I am going to stick with them!

Have you thought about Nextel? I'm not sure about your area but I get great reception and very clear calls. Plus you and your wife can use the direct connect without dialing any numbers. They offer good plans too.
