My hood and roof developed hundreds maybe thousands) of small cracks (they look like chicken feet. My 98 Myst was only two years old and had just over 36k miles. After the dealer and Ford refused to repaint it, I did the smart thing and swore I would never buy another Ford. And thatsâ?? just what I did, My wife now drives a 2003 Subaru, I still have the mistake, and I make sure everyone sees the great Ford paint job and I tell them about all the parts I have replaced on my quality job one car.
Oh, and before everyone starts to scream about buying American, I have been doing that long before it was popular. I even stuck with Fords through the 70â??s (the cars were really bad back then).
All ford had to do was make me an offer to cover part of the costs of the repair and I probably would have considered buying another Ford.
Now, after having the Subaru for three months and not finding one defect I wish I had switched long ago. My Myst was back to the dealer five times in the first three months.
But back to your paint problem. Unless Bill Ford himself decides to do the right thing, you are stuck with the bad paint.
have you fixed your ford lately?

It's supposed to have a rust through warranty and it's supposed to be 5 years/unlimited miles. Just so you know. It's not covered under bumper to bumper warranty.

Every time I hear someone remark about wanting to buy a foreign owned car, and blabbing about quality issues and the like, all I have to say is," If you want to buy a car made by a foriegn owned company, don't you dare complain about the American economy or about how hard it is to find a job." Oh and think of it this way, in 60 years, noone is going to find a Subaru in a barn and say, heh lets resore this thing. But Ford has this trend on their side with this one. Oh and please don't BS me about these Japanese companies making cars here, the profit still goes to corporate, and that is still headquartered in Japan.

but doesn't some of that "profit" go to pay the wages of the Americans working in the US plant? zeon: what year and how many miles? although my car was only a couple of weeks old when i noticed a few cracks in my hood only, they repainted it with no questions asked.

Yeah I have the same problem....I have a 1995 contour lx and the paint seems to be almost cracking on the hood. After almost 8 years I would expect ford to fix this under warranty!!! not really but anyone know a ball park figure for painting a rear svt bumper and side skirts? Just wondering....
