Hello all...well winter is here and I am looking forsome good all season/performance radials for my 2000SVT tour...so far the only real options that I have seen are some BF Goodrich Comp TAs and some Firestone Firehawk TAs...neither of which are supposed to be that great after a few K of use....

Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for decent tires or optional sizes from the facotry specs of 125/50-16...thanks.

Use a 205/60/16. That will give you an extra inch of ground clearence...and way more selection of tires. I used Yok Avids HRs (loved them) last winter and am using Dunlop Sport A2s this winter.

There's no such thing as a 205-60R16 tire. But there's a 215-60R16, or a 225-60R16 tire. A 205-55R16 tire is a little bit shorter but wider.

Well..then I guess I should contact www.tirerack.com and inform them to change all their adds on every tire brand right? All well as rebrand the 205/60/16s I have in my garage?

Idiot...I used them...I'm speaking from experience...

And here's some more "proof"

They exist...

I'm using 215/55/16's Michelin Pilot Alpins on mine for snow/nasty weather use, which are lower speed-rated than what you are considering. I don't have any plans to go corner-carving with dedicated snow tires, though, so as long as you aren't planning on any autocross-like high-speed maneuvers, they V rating should be fine for an all-season tire.

EDIT: Again, it depends on the tire. I've driven V-rated Goodyear GTII's on my '89 SHO ages ago and has so damn much wobble from weak sidewalls that it was sick. Went to a V-rated BFG and it was a night and day difference. Ask around, because I've had no experience with all-season radials in years...

You would probably be very happy with BFG's KDWS (not KDW). It is an unusual tire in that it is an all season tire that also happens to be Z rated, like the original.

As far as using a lesser speed rated tire is concerned, you will probably be just fine with a V rated tire. I tried an H rated tire in my search to obtain longer tire life before going to the KDWS. Unless you plan on driving at Autobahn speeds for an extended period of time, an H or V rated tire should be plenty good enough. Are you planning extended driving times at above 130 or above 149? H rated tires are intend for speeds up to 130 and V rated tires are intended for speeds up to 149. Z rated tires are intended for speeds above 149 MPH.
