Has anyone replaced their waterpump themselves and if they have was it easy to do and how long did it take. I have printed the how to from the website just wanted to ask the question. Thanks in advance.

If you've printed out the how-to then you must have searched the problems section and found out all the details by now.

30-60mins. Piece of cake job.

I changed mine in 45 minutes...at 3:30Am in my appartment parking lot.(Had to work at night cause we weren't alowed to work on cars) I think I used a 10mm wrachet, plyers, and a bucket.

Extremely easy!

Took me a couple hours because I changed the whole thing (front and back plus hoses). Changing just the front half should be a relatively easy job as others have said.

Guys,
how hot is the water supposed to get after spirited driving???

I got the DMD done yesterday, ironically talking to my Ford guy about the water pump, he was telling me it's a problem on contours, he's never seen a csvt have that problem in TX (which was a surprise to me). . .

So, I've been loving the DMD, just so smooth, taking it to 6k more often, fun revving, whatever, when I notice that the temp gauge, which usually sits at O or R on the N-O-R-M-A-L scale is quickly climbing to M and approching A quickly. I got home, left the engine running, popped the hood, and did what the Ford guy said, look at whatever is exposed under the plastic covering the pulley running the pump, if there's something wrong, it'll shimmy.

So, do I drive it? Should I just go get the wp and work on it this weekend?? Are they available at places like Autozone??

Mine took me about 2.5 hours. About half of the time I spent was for draining, flushing and re-filling the cooling system since I switched over to the orange Dex-Cool anti-freeze.

If you suspect a problem with the water pump do not drive the car. Overheating is almost as bad for an engine as running it without oil.

Autozone is one of the retailers that sells a replacement waterpump for our cars that has a metal impeller.

I think the type of waterpump failure the Ford technician was talking about was more along the lines of a pump shaft bearing failure, thats where the shaft will shimmy. The problem our cars suffer from is the impeller cracks at its hub and basically falls off the shaft, or the shaft spins inside the impeller and it doesn't turn. It will be virtually un-noticable on the outside.

How much does a new waterpump cost? I'm thinking of putting in a new one before I go next weekend...
