My kid's '95 Contour, 2.0L w/AC has sprung a sudden, major water leak. It is dripping down from someplace high up above the front passenger foot area.

I pulled up the cowling above the HVAC filter and thought it was a leak source where the gasket of the filter bok mounts to the ovel cut out of the firewall. In a pinch (during a downpour) I just slipped some household caulk in the gap and hoped for the best.

Now Daughter reports floor is still getting wet.

Where else do I need to look for this leak?

Is there some drain which is clogged under this cowling?

Everything on the firewall underhood looks tight.

It's possible the AC drain is clogged. Anyone else?

I had the same problem. Had an inch of water standing in my passenger side floorboard. Found out that the water was coming in the cabin air filter (not sure if this is what you are saying you checked or not, if so, sorry ). There is a seal that the filter sits on if I remember correctly and it had deteriorated down to nothing. I used some silicone caulk and it's been dry ever since.

I agree with you!

I had the same problem since
half a year ago I replaced the
cabin air filter. I'll check it
later to see if the filter is
installed tightly.

I know this is old, but I was looking through AllData, and found a TSB Article # 99-21-5

It states that water could leak in through the passenger door panel area, it is covered under Bumper-to-bumper warranty, under certain provisions.

I had the same problem, thot it was cabin air filter compartment, but it was not. it is the sealing inside the passenger door window, rain water leaks thru and goes on floor, I had 2/3 of an inch on passenger side. just got back from Dealer and get car back tomorrow.

But I was 'lucky?' window got broken by a rock and the broken glass broke sealing, so it is only going to cost me$50. yyyaaaaayyy.
