I discovered over the weekend that 3 out of the 4 motor mounts on my girlfriends Contour need to be replaced. The front and back ones are still intact, just dry and look like they would give out relatively soon. The one under the air box, though, is the real problem.

Am I going to need special tools or anything? I saw something in the shop manual about a Ford alignment tool, but I think if I replace them one at a time I should be alright. It's weird that this mount under the airbox would be so much more worn than the others. The engine has a noticeable downhill slant towards the drivers side. The transaxle case will thump against the frame sometimes because it's so low.

The previous owner did live on a bumpy dirt road, so maybe the vibration and abrasive dust are to blame, oh ya, and the car does have 100K+ on the clock.

Thanks for any input,
Tim

Hey Tim,
This is you, replying to yourself after just changing out those engine mounts.

It's easy to do. I did all of them but the one by the belts(it seemed o.k.). Remove the airbox to get at the drivers side fender one. the other two are just a matter of removing bolts, removing the mount, then sliding/bolting the new ones in place.

Do them one at a time to keep them close to original alignment.

Easy job. Couldn't be happier that I decided to do this myself, even though I have NO time with school and had to travel over 100 miles to get to the parents house where they have a garage and tools I can use.

Oh, and the car is now smooth like butta!
