Not to put a damper on your rant parade, but I really like my BFG's. They've held up for almost 34k miles (that's longer than any tire I've ever owned on any car). They worked admirably well in the snow, and they are very responsive. The only complaint I might have is that they may be too responsive. When I go over a steel bridge, they track all over the place. It's a fight to keep it in my lane.

Yes, and so do the other 100 tires in 225/50R16.

Yeah I loved my KDW's and they were shot most of the time Ihad them. My only gripe was the 215 size being almost $140 a piece on tirerack. So I settled for a cheap set of 225 sumitomo's since I want new wheels anyway.

WB Liz, glad to see that you have not lost your eloquence. If you could use summer tires, the Firestone SZ 50 EP's are awesome tires.

Personally, I've had a bad experience with the KDW. They were fine for the first 20K, but after that started making so much noise people thought I had bad wheel bearings. Not to mention one of them decided to start vibrating despite repeated re-balancing. Getting new Dunlops on Monday...

Please don't nobody jump all over me, but I'm running Goodyear Aquatreads and love 'em. They run really well under normal conditions as well as in the rain and snow. They don't squeal on turns and hold the asphalt really well. That's just my experience. lekmedm

BFG is just an empty nameplate now.
Goodrich sold the tire company almost 10 years ago to Michelin.
Still at that; Michelin (& BFG) still make some of the top performing tires on the market.
225/50's fit the 99 & 00 SVT's (different fender liners) without any rubbing problems.
...and for the record. My BFG's performed so outstanding I just purchased another set (225/50 of course)

As everyone else is saying, 225-50-16 is a great choice. When I bought mine 215 was available and I still went with 225 for aesthetics and the slightly less twitchy tracking characteristics.
If you want to save some money and/or are really into the super flat sidewall and tightly mounted tire look, you can go 205-55-16.
I've owned or regularly (several times a week) driven on Goodyear, Dunlop, Firestone, BFG, Uniroyal, General. I am sold on BFG's quality. Perhaps Michelin is better, no personal experience, but I doubt they are a better value.
