Im thinking about getting new wheels/tires. But what size to go with? Im planning to lower the car, but having a hard time deciding on wheel size. The money isnt the issue, its just if I go with 17's, will I regret not going with 18's?? And if I go with 18's how hard is the ride gonna be?

Thanks guys/gals

I have 215/40-18 on enkie rs5 rims and no broblems at all. I could have used 225/40-18 but played it safe with the 215s because the car has intrax springs on it. The wheels are the perfect offset and tuck just perfect in the fender's.

I love my 17's. I think they are the perfect compromise. I drive ~ 1k miles a week and I love the ride plus it's just great.
BUT, I've never driven or ridden in an 18"er 'tour.

personally, i think anything less than an 18" rim for the Contour is too small aesthetic wise. I ran 18's with 225/40/18 tires and hardly noticed a difference in the ride when compared to the factory wheels at stock height.

I faced the same dilemna when ordering my rims, but i popped for the 18's and have loved every minute of it. Def. go for the 18's, you will be a baller and youll get twice the ladies...Guaranteed! Plus, any rubbing issues can be easily solved with a hammer.

I went from 17s to 18s.

HellHydro is right about aesthetics - the 18s are perfect.

But in my case, the ride is slightly harsher on 18s than 17s. I also had to roll my fenders because of rubbing issues.

Maybe, The prob I had was fixed by loosening the fenderliners and pushing them up and retightening them. The other was a small piece of metal on the inside of the wheel well was hitting the tire.I took a hammer to that.No more problems

Possibly.

It depends on the year - 98s (not sure about 98.5s) have different fender well liners that allow less wheel well space, and it depends on the tire - size, brand, etc.
