Hello Cegers,

After spending 4 hours on the Contour with Meguiars products, I started thinking that the new $35k 2002 Windstar might need the Meguiar's treatment. But then I though about the fact that it is twice the size and would take 8 hours to do. I know that Carnuba wax stops beading after 3 months. So I went to the Zaino website to check on pricing. Thinking I could get away with Zainoing twice a year.

Well, here is my cost analysis:

Zaino
Z-1 8.95
Z-2 12.95
Z-5 16.95
Z-6 9.95
Z-7 7.95
Total $56.75

Meguiar's
00 5.99
6 9.99
5 9.49
20 16.99
26 10.99
34 5.99
Total $59.44

Zaino is less than Meguiar's, why did I not listen

Those Meguiars products will do a lot more to poor condition paint than Zaino will. Zaino requires prefect surface prep with other products in order for it to look its best. So, add in the paint cleaner, polish, swirl remover and it can get even more expensive. THe surface prep is the same for the most part no matter what wax you use.

Dawn
Clay
Paint cleaner
Swirl remover
Then use you favorite wax. For Meg, #7 followed by #26 is knockout. S100 would probably look better and last a little longer than Meg combo for dark cars. Z1/Z2 if you choose Zaino.

If you have light cars, sealants rule. For dark, it is a preference. Zaino does bead for 6 months or more in my experience on ungaraged unprotected paint.

Not to start the old Zaino v World battle again, but I use Meguiars and have no complaints. It smells good, gives me a good shine, is very slick, and takes care of the paint. Plus if I ever need anything I just run to the store and get it. BUT if I ever need to shave or comb my hair in the reflection of my car I'll be certain to get some Zaino.

I love the smell too. As a matter of fact I crave that smell. This is a good thing it makes me wax my car more often. Just remeber it smells great but don't eat it.
