Wow, that is way bad. I can put on a coat of Z2 or Z5 in less than 10 minutes using about 1/4 of an ounce. With ZFX, I mixed 1 ounce and after a wash with Z7, put on 3 coats of Z5 on one car and 1 on another car with Z6 inbetween all in about 2 hours. Zaino is a sealant, not a wax you need to work into the paint. It isn't even a polish in most detailer's definitions. No cleaning or polishing abilities.
From my Zaino tips:
Z1/Z2/Z3/Z5 you apply so very thin. Since it is a paint sealer, you just need enough to bond with the paint. Any more is wasted when you take it off. No buffing, just wiping. You get an 8oz bottle of these, but some people get 3-6 coats per ounce. Last year I made the newbie mistake of putting on too much per coat and wasted a whole bottle of Z1, Z2 and Z5 with only about 10 coats total. Bonus of using thinner coats is the dry time is shorter. When you put on a coat of the polish, it can take from 5 minutes to 24 hours for it to dry. Lower temperatures and higher humidity lengthen the dry time. I try to get a coat on the car in the shade, then move into the sun to dry and it is dry in an hour on a warm day. To test, just run your finger on a part. If it smears, it's not dry. If it comes off cleanly, then it is ready.
ZFX will greatly reduce dry time. But I'd work on thinner coats before spending $20 on that.
I seem to get thinner coats with a foam pad instead of the Zaino ones. Spray the pad with Z6, then add a dime sized drop to the pad, then apply. That is enough for me to get one side of a car, or a hood & trunk. About 4 dime sized amounts (thicker than a dime, though) gets me 1 coat on a medium sized car. If it doesn't appear to be spreading as evenly, then another squirt of Z6. Z6 is my buddy. I have a case supply.
Z6 tip: dilute it with water withough losing effectiveness. Sal Zaino has said 50% water 50% Z6 will still work well. I've been using 50/50 Z6 this year and gone through 2 bottles and it seems to work just as well as last year when I used it straight. Cars still glow and still super-slick and less dusty than when I tried some carnuba on the RX-7 earlier this year.
The trouble you had with taking it off and the hazing lead me to believe it wasn't dry. As I said, 5 minutes for a thin coat in direct sun or up to 24h in humid weather, I have experienced both in our state. Wipe your finger in a small spot. If it smears, let it sit longer.
