Lately my Ford Mondeo 2.0 GLX (Auto) has been making a pinking noise when accelerating. The car has been in various Ford garages who claim they cannot find anything wrong!

Also, the rev counter jumps up and down when idle. So much that you can hear the engine dropping revs.

Can anyone help?

But first of all... when u say PINKING do u mean like PinGing and knocking ??

My Zetec was also knocking under load.. (uphill most of the times)..

nobody could find any problem...

i guess they didn't look hard enough...

I decided one day to check all my vaccum hoses... and guess what ???

I only wish you could search the data on the old CEG forums... because whenI found this cut hose i posted on the forums and I receieved a LOT of comments..

Anyways.... The hose would cost me $94 so I sealed with silicone and taped it....

No more knockings....


Of course... I am not saying that u have a sliced hose... but it could also be any component of the EGR (actually, u can see in one picture how clogged my backpressure valve was)...

Take one afternoon to check the system... u might find something...
