Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives Forums General Troubleshooting REALLY HOT DASH!!!

I have a 96 Contour GL ( YES THE POWERFUL ZETEC ENGINE). Ever since I've had the car, whenever I have my headlights on, my interior dash lights get extremely hot. I know if i keep my hands on there long enough, it will burn the skin. The heat is also effecting my deck, its taking the labels right off my cd's, which is really pissing me off. Plus if I have my stereo higher than 22 for more that 5 minutes, it gets to hot and starts turning down itself. I don't know what to do.

Any help we be greatly appreciated.

I have the similar problem with the int lights. My dash does not get as hot as how you are explaining it. But my dimmer switch is yes, hot to the touch.

My old tempo was the same way. I just assumed it was normal for fords to have this kind of behaviour.

I've particularly noticed my headlight switch getting hot. I probably notice it more than I do the other lights because I feel it when I turn the lights off. Mine doesn't seem to be as hot as yours though. Turning down the intensity of the lights seems to help.
