Anyone else swap just cams on a 01 Taurus motor yet? The timing chains dont fit the SVT cams. The chains are too thin for the thicker sprockets of the SVT cams.

Anyone else have this problem??

Best guess would be to use the timing set up from the 2.5 motor... Am I right? What do I win???

I used the timing chain from my dead 2.5L with my SVT cams on my 3L heads & block. That may be the direction you'll have to go.

Thats what I thought, just use the 2.5 chain. The 3L i have has less than 2000 miles, was hoping I could reuse the fresh parts.

You'll also want the lower sprocket from the 2.5. Make sure to check the chain tensioners too...

Just wondering if you could "Press" out the gear shaft on the SVT cam and put the 3.0 ones on?

Sometime in the 2000 model year, production switched from a 3/8 inch pitch chain to an 8mm pitch chain. The switch required changing the cam spockets, crank sprockets, chain, chain guides, chain tensioner arms, and chain tensioners. Use the camshafts to dictate which components to use. If you want to use the 8mm pitch cams, swap over all of the 8mm timing components as well. None of the fasteners changed BTW.

Additional info. The 3.0L Lincoln LS has another set of timing components. The chain, chain guide, and chain tensioner arms are unique. Unique means that the Linc. LS 3/8in pitch parts are different from the regular Duratec 3/8in parts. Same story for the Linc. LS 8mm parts.

I highly doubt that you would be able to press off the old cam sprockets without damaging them. Then you would need to press them on the other cams with about 1° accuracy.

So, what does this mean for someone trying to use 2.5 cams on the LS 3.0? Or has anyone tried yet?

Wayne, 3.0L Lincoln LS heads have bucket tappets. (i.e. no roller finger followers or hydraulic lash adjusters) You can not use 2.5L cams in a 3.0L Lincoln LS head.
