My car has the KKM & no res exhaust. I raced an MTX Cougar w/KKM & Borla exhaust. They launched well, as did I. She ran only 0.2 sec faster than me!
So I guess with some basic mods (KKM, exhaust, etc) an ATX could keep up with a stock MTX?!

To answer your last question, I would say that you can definitely improve your acceleration given the intake and exhaust mods. I would recommend an aftermarket chip too, to assist the shift firmness and shift points of your ATX.
