Ok, I have read almost every post on the Bridgestone Potenza re950 and I think it's the tire for me
:p . The question now is the size? I have a y2K SVT with stock rims, suspension ex.. Will going with a 225/50HR16 or even the 245/50HR16 cause any problems? smile My goals are a sharp crisp turn and quick stop.
Is wider better?

Any informed comments are welcom.

225 should fit on a stock suspension with no rubbing. Going larger will cause problems.

Nice tire choice, I love my 950s.

Thanks for the info Antiramie? how long have you had them (miles). Do you know for sure that the 245's would not rub?

I doubt the 245's would fit very well, 245's are a wee bit wider than the rim can handle. 245's are for atleast an 8" wide rim, so imagine a 9-10" wide tire on a 6.5" rim, doesn't look to good, and probably wouldn't even fit the rim. Just my 0.2 cents.

I am positive 245s WILL rub. 235s will too I believe. IIRC, no one has gone higher than 225s because of the rubbing problem, and, like SonofaBoss said, the width of the tire being too big for the width of the rim.

Ive had my Potenzas for about 2000 miles. Havent had the chance to push them to their max yet because of a steering problem. However during normal/slightly aggressive driving ive noticed they grip the road very well for a High Performance tire, they are pretty quiet, and they give great traction in the rain (a big plus in Florida smile )

I have 225/50R16's on my 98 E0 SVT and they fit fine, but the fit is very close. There is not room for anything wider. The 225's are great.

I can nonly remember seeing one seron with 235 width tires and he had rubbing problems despite working on the fender. But he also had larger rims that probably had a different offset. 225/50R16 on the stock rim is the best you can do.

Thanks for all the post. It looks like the 225 is the way to go.

Same here, I have 225/50/16 and it seems like there are only a few mm before the tires rub the strut! eek
