I have been getting a P0420 code and from what I've read, this means that my pre-cat is bad. My inspection is up and I need to fix the problem cheep! I've read about the milliminators and wanted to find out if they really do work. Thanks for the help

MIL Elminators do work for turning off the P0420 code. If you don't want to go splicing and dicing wires, you could install spark plug anti-foulers.

how to: http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=114931

Good luck!

On our cars the cat codes are often really phantom codes. The pre-cats are the only cats that those codes apply to on our cars. Try catching up on maintenance, then turn off the light and drive it for a while to see if the code comes back. You may have nothing to worry about.

My car is one of the many that has the cat code show up ocassionally but further testing reveals that the pre-cats are functioning fine. It has always passed a dyno loaded smog test with flying colors.

By catching up on maintenance, I mean oil and oil filter, air filter, clean throttle body, and run some injector cleaner through the fuel tank.

If there is any doubt about the upstream oxygen sensor for the bank involved, change it.

Those codes are set when the downstream oxygen sensor too closely matches the upstream sensor. If the upstream sensor is lazy it can contribute to the code getting set.

Also, there is a Ford TSB for many of the 96 to 97 (and I think even some 98) models that provides a new program for the PCM that widens the parameters for setting the codes. It may be worth talking to your Ford dealer to see if your car is one of them and how much the reprogramming will cost.

Yes, they will 100% forsurely work if installed correctly. They are very easy to do, very cheap, and they defiently work. You can't go wrong putting them on. There are many knockoff brands on ebay and the such, and although some people have had good luck with them, I would still go to www.milleliminators.com to buy your set.

Good buy if it works.

Call the folks at www.mileliminators.com and see if they accept credit cards or checks.

I don't have paypal either... I just used a credit card. Also, when you by the mils from mileliminator.com, you get 2 mils. One for bank 1 and one for bank 2. Those on ebay look like they only come with 1 mil eliminator.

I have been up on the maintenance. And just recently changed the bank1 O2 sensor. I was getting an occasional code showing it was slow to respond. I also cleaned the maf. I just worry because my code reader still says that the computer is monitoring the catalyst. But it hasn't thrown a code yet and I changed the O2 on thursday. I still need to drive it a few more days before I can take it to get inspected. I hate NY inspections. They hook up to the computer and If it has any codes even stored, it won't pass. And you can't even get away with just clearing the codes because they can see that too. Wich is why I have to drive it for a few more days.
