Well I'm home for the weekend I went to try to finish the front suspension. While messing with the knuckle/sturt/lca I noticed grease on the lca. Guess what! Somewhere along the way I popped/put a hole in the ball joint boot.

I searched and found that i'm pretty much screwed and you can't replace the ball joint/ball joint boot. (correct me if I'm wrong)

But while I'll be buying a new lca, Does it have the bushings with the control arm? But if I'm spending more money why not just blow another hole in my bank account. The bushings are kinda worn anyway.

Oh and any other place to buy better then teamfordparts.com? Their price is $48.78.

Lower ball joints can be removed and can be reinstalled with Ford or aftermarket parts. Just have to drill out the rivets in the original ball joints. If you have a Haynes manual, it gives a step by step procedure.

But if you are getting new LCAs, it should come with lower ball joints.

Lower ball joint how-to

I came back to check the post, and I was on napa and saw that has the lower ball joint. Anyone Ever use them? They have a cheaper and more expensive part. Not sure why.

Oh and Napa is just across the street from advanced I'm finding out that advanced is very very useless for any parts other major components like brakes.

Edit:

F5RZ-3V078-B <- Does it come with bolts? And should I replace the other side since this one is is of different design?

USE NAPA PARTS!

even the el-cheap-o napa parts are awesome. I put some cheapo sway bar endlinks on my corolla, and the quality was just amaizing. For $20 a piece I was impressed with how solid the parts were. yes a cheap-o NAPA ball joint is of good quality. Just for the love of god dont go to autozone for anything.

well I went to napa and got the "premium" replacement ball joint. They didn't have the cheap-o's in stock and I couldn't get them til tuesday (when I'm back at college)

And if my car isnt' out of the garage monday night it will be in there for 3 weeks while the addition to our garage is being pour/built.

oh and my new ball joint doesn't seem to move at all??? I am confused on that one.

New ball joints are normally very, very stiff. You'll probably need some mechanical advantage to line it up for insertion into the knuckle.

Not necessary. I know a CEGer with one side stock and one side aftermarket. .

Yeah I got it to bend after force it to. It moves freely with force.

And the one I got is a different design but seems like it will work just fine.

It took me a little over 2 hours to get the old balljoint out. I would have been nice to just use bolts from the start. I would honestly rather cars couse another 500 bucks and be easier to repair then have a complete pita anytime something breaks.

but anyway it took an angle grinder, and a drill to get them out. Scuffed the LCA pretty good so I repainted it.

I'm gonna have alot of pictures till this is said and done. lol.

I'll start work again tomorrow where I started today!
