I changed my water pump yesterday. what a job. but now on the way to work my air bag light started flashing code 45. I know this means "45=LH Primary Crash Sensor Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly" but where is this sensor.

can some one help me with some direction or a picture I'm not even sure what this sensor looks like.

Thanks

the two sensors are located behind the grill, not sure how they define left and right but check them out, but basically one is near the water pump kinda

LH is defined as driver's side.

When referencing parts location, it is standard to use those directions from an "in the driver's seat" perspective.

Both sensors look the same. Black box looking thing. Sometimes just cleaning the contacts helps. Disconnect both battery terminals and wait 15 minutes before working on anything airbag related.

I had airbag code 44 before...which is the right side sensor code. I found, in my case, it was because of the ground wire for that sensor....that particular (right side one) grounds out on the little metal cross-member behind the headlight. Anyway, in your case i'd say follow the ground wire from the sensor down to where ever it goes and clean up the ground and make sure that there is good metal to metal contact and it's tight....if the code doesn't go away still, i've read that people have removed the actual sensor and cleaned up where it attaches to the body....but i'd be careful there...don't know what it takes to trigger the airbags.

BTW, the sensor on my car just looked like a small black box.

Edit: Tony was a little quicker.

LOL. It's all good. You can't go wrong with more rather than less good advice when it comes to airbags.

The sensor reacts to shock. If the car is off you will not have any problems with the air bags going off. If the car is on don't hit the sensor with a hammer.

I thought that the sensors were grounded through bolt that holds them to the steel structure behind the grill. You need to make sure it is clean and has a good connection.
