I have a serious issue that rose today. After tuning the car at 12 psi with Tom(waromnger) I was having a little problem with traction in third and 1st and 2nd forget full throttle unless you want to replace 225 tires every month. I picked up my buddy to go take a ride oh did that make a big difference the extra 200lb made my tires grip in third not power shifting at all either. So today Warmonger told me to turn up the boost to 14psi. Ok then I really realized we have a big problem now. I can't not no way catch grip in thrid now only in fourth. Sucks big time because third was my funniest gear now it is fourth gear. It just isn't fun to drive when you have to baby the throttle on a run. I bet most wish they had my problem ........ but beleive me it get annoying. when 1st through third is useless till you get to 80 mph. All I can say is we need to start now researching on how to fabricate a wide body kits that looks good so we can use the power. Never did I think I would have third being that much of an issue on traction. Well If that gives you any idea of what power I am generating it is alot I will try to get you a video tonite of the problem we face.

You can roll your fender lips and pull the fenders (not sure that's the right term...), get the perfect offset wheels and you might be able to get 245+ on there. It would just take some serious effort

I thought this thread was going to be like the one Swazo started about his "problem." I was all "oh no!" when I saw the thread, and thought another hoss 3L Turbo had met its maker.
And yes, I do wish I had your problem!

I've got a set of new 245's that I'd sell you. I know thes will fit on a contour since I had another set of the same tires on my car.

I feel your pain. I only have a moderate problem myself. 1st and most of 2nd are pretty useless at full throttle. I feel great pity for you turbo folks that can't even use 3rd gear as well. At least my 3rd gear pulls hard and does not lose traction.

Could you just get an electronic boost controller to allow two stages of boost levels or a progressive boost increase?

That was my intentions to make people jump to the negative conclusions .........lol I just having some fun with the board but beleive me I will get a electronic boost controller. But seriousily tires will only give me some gains but not near as much as third wants to do. But how crappy is this you have to wait till 85mph before you can apply the power. On the streets that is over the speed limit and the quarter mile is like the last 100 ft nah but of course the track are sticker too so maybe there I will get to use 15 psi and more. I will make that my project to get grip even if the fenders have to be modified.

I'm assuming Burrita that you already did the solid mount adjustment to the rear motor mount that Keith came up with? That helps tremendously, Kontofosho has it and gave it positive feedback. The next mod I was going to do if I kept my car was figure a way to triangulate the front end to stiffen it up. I also welded plates to the control arms which definately stiffened those up. How about sub frame connectors? Have you done those yet? 16 gauge rectangular steel is what I used. It definately stiffened up the frame. You just may need to stare at the front end for a while until you come up with something brilliant to put the power down.

I do have the solid motor mount that keith came up with I also have polys in front and teh wheel hop is gone. So I am not sure if two tires spinning would justify stiffening up in s atraight line. If only one did then maybe the flex would cause that. This morning when it was cold It did it so bad I left black marks at a 4K punch to redline and then I smelt rubber afterwards but it still pulled like a monster too. I will try to do fender add-on if possible first.

you could always try running on drag radials, you will have to keep the car out of the rain, but with your traction issues it sounds like you should do that anyway.
another option is to try finding a lower ratio final drive gear; not only will it help with traction, but the increased engine load will spool your turbo sooner.

I asked Terry set up my tranny that way. Even with Torsen I'm sure I'll have the same traction issues. Makes for a demmanding (and exciting) ride I'm sure.

Cool. It would be really nice if you were whipping a corvette or something at the same time. Or better yet a Dodge Neon SRT4, WRX, or any of the other cars that people drive around thinking "I'm Gods gift to racing..." something like that.

you may also want to try some tubular control arms with solid mounts, that would definitely help the rigidity.

here's my plan for rigidity.
take the motor out, put it in a go kart, or something ugly and small, like a festiva.
follow a cobra driver home, steal his car, bring it to my garage. weld up tubular steel the length of the car. take the rear suspension out of the cobra, bolt it up to the contour subframe. yank the engine, and wiring. put it into teh contour, however it fits. balsa wood, elmers glue, welding steel in, pop cans, hockey sticks, whatever to make it fit. cut a massive hole in the hood where the ported eaton will stick out, for extra cool points.
bring the cobra back, pulled by the festiva, with a sign that says thanks for the drivetrain, here's a festiva.
spank everyone down on the strip next weekend. lol!

Easily? Tony Boner didn't break it and it was still good at least a year after Scott bought it that I spoke to him last. I never heard that it broke until now. The one on my old car is still good and it took a lot more abuse than Scott's. How would you improve it Todd?
