"...if anything, it was more the owners' fault for letting the dog run loose in the streets."

Loss of a beloved pet is always tough. I have a beautiful dog of my own. Trained her special to take care of my blind wife & protect the house & family. She does a wonderful job & is the the most gentle creature with my young nieces & nephews (from newborns to teenagers).

Cold as it may seem, you must remember that it was just an animal, and be consoled it was not a child in the street.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I'm sorry Scott!

I agree, it was not your fault and it was nice of the owners to be thankful that you stopped to tell them. You did go above and beyond, others might have kept driving.

Since I know you, I know that you are as upset as you sound in your post. I'm sorry! There was nothing you could do to prevent this.

If the dog's owner does get another pet, I hope in the future that they will be more careful about letting their dog run at large.

Sending you and your daughter {{HUGS}}!
