I hope this little dork piece of crap never comes back to this district. Aside from this email, meeting him from Day 1 this summer, I could not stand him. He thinks he knows everything about everything, and is never wrong. As a intern he is assigned to specific tasks, but yet he chooses wether or not he will do them. If he thinks it should be done differently, he decides on his own how to do it. Sorry, but it does not work like that. Working with him only 1 day this summer, I was ready to kill him. He ignored anything I told him to do and did it his own way.
Then he has the nerve to come over here to the middle school today to help out, shows up 30 mins late, and leaves 30 mins early, and has the balls to send this to my boss trying to start crap.
From: Philip Doughty (RIT Student) Sent: Friday, August 25, 2006 12:53 PM To: GUY B. COLLINS Cc: KEN SAYERS; PETEE THOMSON; DAVID JEPSEN; DORY NICKERSON Subject: EHMS
Mr. Collins,
Today I went to work at the middle school. I had to leave early, otherwise I would have been over my 35 hours/week (I put in some extra time with Synergy). Also, I had to drop off my keys at CIBA.
From what I can tell, just about all of the classroom machines should be plugged in and set up. There were one or two that I couldn't get to because the teacher's had all of their stuff on the counter and there was no room to put the computer there.
I don't know why Dory was so panicked about this, it only took me an hour or two to go around and set them up.
I also just wanted to express some concerns that I have with the middle school. When I arrived, I was told to go to various hallways and make sure everything was hooked up. That's fine, but it appeared to me that Dory wasn't doing anything. Whenever I finished a task, I would go back to the library and each time I found her just sitting there chatting with Tony and drinking coffee. Maybe I am mistaken, but I was under the impression that the IT department works as a team. And that as summer help, I would be assisting the full-year staff. At the middle school I didn't feel like I was part of a team, I felt like I was doing Dory's job for her. I did not feel that way at any other building in the district.
On a lighter note, I would like to say thank you for letting me help out this summer. I learned a lot, and it was a pleasure working with you and the rest of the IT department.
I do not know if I will be available next summer. If I get accepted to the Masters program at RIT, then I am required to have an internship that is registered with the school. EHPS would most likely qualify, except I think it needs to be a minimum of 10 weeks; this summer I only worked 8. I will be sure to shoot you an email or something about my availability.
Thanks again,
~Phil Doughty

Perhaps you should write up a formal evaluation as I'm sure the IT team all had the same experiences.
I'm sure your boss would like to know.

Interns should be your b!tch. Thats what intern means. You do all the sh!tty tasks assigned to you and dont complain, because your getting industry experience (and learning how different coffee machines work).

When I was a full semester (unpaid) intern in Congress I had a chip on my shoulder when I started and was assigned crap jobs, but it was knocked off pretty quickly and I learned a lot. This kid needs to learn about life and not to crap on the people who might be able to help you in the future.
BTW, one of my very good friends in the Registrar at RIT. Let me know if you would like me to put in a good word for this fine young person with him.

My boss is already aware of the issues we have with him. Let's just say, he will most likely not be back next summer.
Only reason he got the job was because his father is a teacher in this building. I met his father first, and I knew right off the bat, his son was going to be an issue.

So it's safe to say, this was his first "real" job? Reality is going to jump down his throat when he starts working for a company that Daddy can't back him up on. Little pricks like that have to learn the hard way!

Yeah, he worked at K-Mart before working here.
His father actually stopped by my office earlier (before this email happened), looking for his son. Man, I wish he stopped by after this happened because I would of layed into him about his son.
Today is the first day, since the 7th of this month, that I have actually spent the day in my office. Every single day, I've been all over town doing tons of work at the elementary buildings. Today, one of the interns I was working with was out, and I decided it was good day to catch up on work orders and paperwork since I didn't have my extra help like usual.
God forbid I sit down and drink a coffee and talk while I work. He has no clue what projects I am working on to be judging either one of us and making comments like that.
Errrr, why do I even feel the need to justify myself to someone like him?
Oh yeah, before the summer started, his father bragged about his son like crazy saying how smart he is and blah blah blah. He told us, that he is going to "fix our network" for us. Yeah, right, I'm sure he is.
Couldn't even do a simple task of installing a printer correctly in Mac OS 9 after showing him how to do it.
