I reaalize that every so often this post comes up in this thread, but I needed some advice for my mother's car. We've kept the glass on the vehicle for almost a year, and the glass has split almost to two feet in length, originally it was a 4/5" gash. I want to get new glass in there before this winter, preferably by this or next weekend. Anyways, she has a $250 deductable through her insurance. Any advice on a place that is either really really cheap, or really expensive!?!?

A lot places will pay up to a certain amount of your deductable. They'll even come to where ever the car is as well. Just start calling around.

Get it changed now! Your mother shouldn't be driving with a compromised windshield. It's probably flexible and everytime she goes on the freeway the aero force flexs it and cracks it more. I got mine done for less than $170 out of pocket tax included no insurance claim involved. My deductible was $300. I was more than happy to pay $170 for a new windshield. They came to my work parking lot and fixed it while I was at work. Never missed a beat. My insurance gave me the shop name, it's the one they use. I think it's called Glass America, (734) 464-4644 out of Livonia.

Yeah, I know it has been long overdue. When these guys do it at specific location is it usually a clean install? I ask b/c I may want to do it at my home in the driveway. However, if there's even a small chance of glass shattering, I'd prefer it not to be in my driveway. I'm completely a noob when it comes to installing new windshields. Only thing I have had done was an application of crack sealent in a small chip I had. Keep in mind this windshield has a good 2 foot gash so even if there's a slight possibility of the glass shattering, I don't want to do it in the driveway.

Is there anything else I should look out for other than quality of glass? (do I ask specifically if the glass is oem?) Thanks a lot guys.

I think windshields are laminated so they don't shatter. Windows and other glass are tempered so they shatter into dull pieces. But it was a clean install. They come with a van and take the old glass away. I wouldn't worry about it. Park it on the street or have them meet you at a mall while you shop if it makes you feel better.

I have a glass shop down in detroit, i can do the windshield for cheap thats for sure, the only problem is that you have to drive down there. its on grand river and hubbel. its the ghetto but dont be afraid.lemme know were open m-f 830-400 saturdays usally 830-1
